I'm sorry there wasn't something a little happier for your birthday, but I'm so pleased you liked it just the same, and I really appreciate your thoughtful comments, as always.

That line of Tonks' to Harry about nearly failing Stealth and Tracking is such a little throwaway line, and I've wondered if it isn't just a perfectionist!Tonks using "almost failed" to mean "didn't pass with flying colors," which is something I've actually hinted at in this ficverse. But I really wanted to heap the angst on her and Remus by making this a case of very bad timing, so I'm so pleased you liked the way I tied in that line here. You may just be seeing another flashback about how she really managed to do on her exam. ;)

I'm absolutely thrilled you feel for Remus even though the POV is all Tonks. I hoped he wouldn't come off looking too bad for keeping things from her. He is in a hard spot; but she is too. If he had told her, before the truth of Sirius' innocence came to light, then Tonks would have had to deal with the hard choice of did she reveal something that might have aided in his capture, and kept people safe. And that's something I think is always going to be part of their relationship: there are never easy answers. I wanted to plant the seeds for that early.

Glad you liked the last line, too! I actually didn't know how to bring it to an end, and even now I'm wondering if it shouldn't have been another thought about it being the worst day to qualify for Auror ever, but I'm glad you like the implication that Des thinks Tonks is upset about him being a werewolf, and not knowing about the real reason. Which will come up in subsequent chapters. ;)

Anyway, thank you again, so much, for your comments. And I hope it's been a lovely, lovely birthday for you.
