Naturally Remus' inner monologue would take infinitely varied and complicated routes before finding his romantic destination that is Tonks. Nothing was straightforward in his riveting self reflection, lol. His thoughts were a series brief what to do, what not to do suggestions before derailing completely and getting back on track for more of the same recycling through unsure feelings. It's precisely the entangled nervous system neurosis attitude that passionate sparks produce, so I think you got the first person POV dead on.
