Fic: Stuck in the Past

May 24, 2008 16:47

“Oh, I’m denying it, am I?” Tonks snapped in return, her eyes blazing. “I’m the one out every bloody night patrolling Diagon Alley with Mad Eye, and you’re sitting in here sipping at wine as though it’s going to get you wasted enough to block out the feelings. Tell me, Remus,” she said, her voice becoming icier, “how is that helping the situation ( Read more... )

You've really captured a very raw moment for them here. The idea that Remus would be having a hard time keeping young Sirius and post-Azkaban Sirius straight in his mind is very believable, especially when alcohol and grief are added to the equation -- and it kind of echoes the way Sirius sometimes seemed to be conflating Harry and James. I like this image of Tonks, angry about Remus giving up and trying her best to shake him out of it, while being confused about her own feelings as well.

Oh god, I'm sorry it took me so long to get to this.
Thanks for commenting, especially on Tonks - her characterisation was what I was most worried about, because I wasn't sure if she was too confused or too concerned.

You did a great job depicting the grief of Remus after Sirius' death and Tonks worry about him.

We usually only see Remus as the composed and reserved man, but in this fic, he kind of lets his feelings and grief show, which is refreshing and different.
As for Tonks, her indecision, whether to let Remus drink or not, is quite adorable.

Great work!

Thanks for commenting, and sorry it took me so long to get around to this. :]
I'm really glad you enjoyed Remus in this - I had so much fun writing his grief, because it was so close to the surface during HBP and DH, and yet it never became an issue... I'm glad you liked Tonks too, I was worried about her.

I'm glad to see a fic with Remus actually falling apart a bit after Sirius' death. It only seems reasonable, that in private, when not dealing with duty, he would be depressed and even fatalistic.

That was... amazing.

I definitely like how you executed the whole 'Remus-doesn't-know-who-post-Azbakan-Sirius-is' thing.

I think you captured Tonks in a extremely believable way.

Great job.

It's kind of like how Sirius sees Harry as James, actually. I don't think anyone would have recognised Sirius post POA, least of all his best friends. :(
Thanks for commenting, and I'm pleased you liked it...

Awesome icon, too. I love McGonagall's face.

It's a refreshing change to see Remus depicted as behaving, not quite badly, but in an unguarded and grief-stricken way after the end of OotP. I like the parallel about how confused they are in their feelings; he about Sirius and the past, and she about him and the future. Though I suspect he is about her as well. I almost hoped she was going to challenge him more on that, when he was starting to open up, as I was wondering if nearly seeing Tonks killed at the Ministry had played a part in this. But kissing him probably did the job even more effectively! I think you showed both the caring and impetuosity in her right there.

It's a good last line as it really does make you wonder what's going to happen after that... ;)

I'll leave the ending up to your imagination. I'm sure you'll have fun thinking of something for them to get up to...

Anyway, thanks for commenting, and sorry it took me so long to reply. I had a lot of fun trying to capture Remus' grief in this, so I'm pleased it worked for you.

I didn't even think about that! :] I definitely see where you're coming from though, especially since I can see it working into the fic well... This was meant to be more of a how Remus copes with Sirius' death piece (as a change from seeing Remus dealing with the pregnancy/Tonks' declarations of love), but that really would have left his mark on Remus too, and I can't believe I didn't think of it.
