I knew when I reassured you on faith that the end wasn't rubbish that I was placing my faith on solid ground. :) In fact the end is wonderful; the whole fic is wonderful, but I think you especially pulled it all together in the end, with your beautiful, poetic, fluid prose which encapsulates this idea of tenuous certainty. You always amaze me with your ability to put into words such deep thoughts as this: But it's something, more than something, a tether that grounds with a stronger force than anything which is truly tangible, but it's elements are there in touch and comfort, in laughter and understanding, and the abiding force that stems from a deep love and the connection of having created something truly precious. Contrasted with the very concrete images of Christmases past in the start, and with the detailed one of the present, that thought seems all the more wonderful, and really does create the sense that this moment is nothing short of magical -- or miraculous -- in the midst of the crazy world events.
Your first person voice throughout this is wonderful; you capture such a thoughtful Tonks, and yet there's just the right amount of her humor and wide-eyed bride and mother-to-be in her, as well. It's a truly Tonksian narrator, and you've made it read so effortlessly, too, as if you really are in her head! She's so happy and full of life, just as she should be. I think pregnancy would make her more this way, as you've depicted her.
I think Remus' apron is my very favorite thing in the whole fic, though of course I do love him being very intense as he leads her to bed, lol.
I don't think I've said half of what this fic deserves, but trust me when I tell you this is absolutely a delightful reads, one of the best things you've written, IMO, and one of my favorites from this Advent, as well. :)
Your faith is always very much appreciated, but it's also very nice to know that you think you were right! After all this time I'm still not sure what to say about these so-called poetic qualities, but I'm so very glad that you can see them! So thank you. :) I had such fun with the first few paragraphs and the old Christmases, and with the apron, so I'm glad you enjoyed those bits.
Though I've not picked up DH since a few days after it was released, I think that the descriptions of her showing off her ring from her perch on top of the washing machine at Privet Drive and looking 'radiant' at The Burrow are lasting images that really illustrate how happy she was, and I really wanted to try and capture that in this fic, so it's very pleasing to know that you found her voice came with the right balance.
