Oh, I love this!

First off I think it's just a super use of your prompts, especially the Advent Calendar as somehow I got to thinking of it in terms of how whimsical wizarding Advent Calendars would be so I never thought of it in this very primitive way. I can just imagine Remus sitting slumped on a log, drawing in the dirt with a twig and trying to keep himself sane in the midst of domination and rights and blood and guilt and duty (love the reputation of that throughout, btw) by tying himself to home. (Him singing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" really got me, too.) And I can see him touching the other werewolves -- especially the younger ones -- in ways like this, not even realizing that even these little glimpses of the life he's known change them and give them hope ( ... )

I'm so flattered by everything you've said - so much detail, so much analysing (you got everything, by the way ;) ).

I'm suffering from a bit of a Praise Overload, which is, admittedly, very nice :).

Thank you for taking the time to read and the time to comment, and, of course, for moderating such an excellent challenge! It was a lot of fun, so I'm glad you enjoyed it.

That was so beautiful. You have me weeping. This is very much how I imagined life amoung Greyback's pack would be for young werewolves. Having to grow up so fast and yet, they are still so vulnerable, yearning for things they cannot imagine in their secret hearts. Christopher was wonderful. (I really liked the name choice as well.) Remus was so kindly and thoughful. I liked how you took the prompt of an advent calandar, something that can be so silly and frivolous and stripped it down to its bare bones. Just lines in the dirt. Your inclusion of Tonks was perfect. “A little one. A bright one. With … colours.” Thats Tonks to a T. I could feel Remus' emotions as he remembered her. We (Christopher and the reader alike) can see how much he longs for her and loves her. Your last paragraph had me crying. It is so beautiful that the memory stays with him for so long and yet so tragic that there is still "the blackness of the woods he was in" all around him. Poor Christopher. At least Remus was able to give him that one gift forever.

I always wondered about that company of werewolves Remus disappeared off with in HBP - if there weren't any werewolf students at Hogwarts, yet the werewolves were biting as many people as they could ... then that would have meant there were children travelling, too. I can't really imagine the sorts of things they'd have had to live through (of course, I do have to keep remembering that these characters are fictional ;)), and thought I'd give it a go.

I'm glad the result was to your liking - it's a bit ... downy for Christmastime (sorry to make you cry ;).

Thanks for taking the time to read, and to leave such a detailed comment - it means a lot to me.

Happy Christmas!

First off, let me say before anything else that the following statement is a compliment:

This story was like a black hole.

I have reasons for professing something so bizarre, and they follow. It was dark; it was enveloping; it was irresistable; it was mesmerizing; and it was beautiful in that you're-pretty-sure-your-mind-isn't-quite-big-enough-to-understand-entirely kind of way.

Riotous applause from this corner. :D

It's not often that being told that something you've created is a "black hole" brings a smile to your face, but, this is what I looked like after reading your comment: :D

Riotous applause back at you for a creative (and insightful) response!
