Mucha

I saw some of Alfons Mucha's stuff years ago in Prague and liked it so much I bought the T-shirt. It's rather threadbare now and faded, and spent a while being accidentally borrowed by a friend, but I still like it.

Savings banks here in Spain have some sort of special tax incentive to do "public works" and ours has pumped a load of money into a new gallery for Madrid, and one of its opening exhibitions is a load of Mucha's stuff. We went yesterday... still really like his stuff. Particulary the sets of four vertical pictures in the series for seasons, precious stones, flowers, times of day, etc. They all feature women, plants and general gorgeous Art Nouveau design. Also a surprising amount of occult and alchemical symbolism. He was a very keen mason, who knew?

The icon here is from an advert for an outrageously named French biscuit.

Also, he did a nice poster for his show at the Brooklyn Museum in 1921. (Part of) it caught my eye:
