One thing I miss about California is that California respects the existence of the doughnut as a food worth consuming for its own sake, rather than merely as a complement to the morning cup of caffeinated beverage. On Thursday, I tried to take Moira by Mighty-O Donuts, since we strongly suspect she currently has a dairy allergy. At 7:30pm, they were closed. According to Yelp, only 3 places were open, one being Top Pot, which I can't really complain about except for having to deal with Capitol Hill, but even that one closes at 9pm. After that, there's only one place open, and that's in the U District. In the Bay Area, there were two I knew about between work and home open 24 hours without having to resort to Krispy Kreme. In LA, there are a number of famous and not-so-famous choices, and I think most people reading this are well aware of the situation.
I don't care enough to quit my job and open a 24 hour donut place, even though there's probably a good opportunity next to the taco truck in Wallingford. It'd be nice if someone did, though.
