hey everyone, thanks for all the wonderful advice on my last post about the metalsmithing equipment that i found for sale :)

here's my update:

i went to look at all the equipment, and the majority of it was low-end (ie, functional but no bells or whistles, and totally usable for small-time casting, which would be what i'd use it for) and needs a little TLC. it seems like the majority of it is in working order, just needs a few parts replaced here or there and some cleanup. unfortunately because of all that, i felt like i had to make an offer of half his asking price -- $2k instead of $4k. the seller was essentially a beginner who had bought the equipment from someone else, hoping to get more into the hobby but then lost interest, and i think he didn't know what he had and overpaid for it when he bought it.

fortunately, he understood my reasoning and agreed to my offer!! i'm getting casting equipment!! :):) and mold making stuff, and a tiny rolling mill, and some super-basic stone cutting tools, and some rough stones, and a few pieces of equipment that i don't actually want/need so might try to re-sell (anybody want a plating machine or fancy steam cleaner?)

it'll be a basic casting setup for sure, but basic setups are all i've ever had and they work just fine for me. i'm so excited!! hopefully i'll be picking it all up tomorrow! hee!
