Edit: Before you read, understand these terms:
OTP - One True Pairing. A way of referring to the fandom pairing you prefer most.
'SHIP - A particular pairing within a fandom, eg Janeway/Paris in ST:VOY, Tim/Miguel in seaQuest DSV or Marius/Cosette in Les Miz. Comes from the word "relationship". Clever, eh?
'SHIPPER - A person who supports a particular 'ship.

"Tainted," you ask, "What do you mean you are tainted?"
Well, it has come to my attention that I will ship EDIT BECAUSE OF KIM: ALMOST anything. And I will find a ship in anything. If someone so much as looks at another person for longer than a second, I will jump out of my seat screaming "OMG THEY WANT EACH OTHER, THEY LURVE EACH OTHER, THEY'RE MADLY BOINKING EACH OTHER'S SOCKS OFF OMG THEY'RE MY OTP!!11!oneone"
So how did I come to this conclusion? I was in Chem class. I was so not paying attention. Instead, I was doing my reading for Astronomy class. I was on the section that talks of Tycho Brahe (yes, of bladder-exploding fame) and his successor Johannes Kepler (known for his laws of planetary motion). AND OMG THEY'RE MY OTP!!1"
So, let's start with some background.
Tycho Brahe was born into a rich Danish family. He was considered like royalty. He found his way into astronomy by his own pursuit, being fascinated at the age of thirteen. From then on, he spent his life pursuing astronomy and figuring out the rules of the universe. He was tedious in his observations, down to the very last detail. He determined that the skies are not perfect and do change due to a supernova explosion blah blah, I'm sure you care.
Johannes Kepler was born into a dirt poor family with too many members. His father and mother left the children when Kepler was four and he was raised by his weird grandparents. He spent time in school and went on to begin studying to become a Lutheran minister. For some unknown reason, the school asked him to teach mathematics and astronomy to students rather than theology. He did so, and became fascinated as well. When the Protestants were forced out of Germany, he found Brahe and began to study under him.
So begins the REAL story.
They started off on the wrong foot. Brahe was a nobleman. And Kepler was beneath his station. At first Brahe only communicated with him through third parties. This irritated Kepler, and he would often leave, only to write Brahe begging to be able to come back. Which Brahe would accommodate to. Other times, Brahe himself would be angered and send Kepler off, only to write Kepler begging him to come back. Um. Seriously.
Starting off on the wrong foot, and constantly leaving and returning, you would think they wouldn't get along. However, somehow Kepler ended up being at Brahe's side when he was dying (hee hee, bladder) only eighteen months after first meeting. According to my book, Brahe whispered continuously to Kepler "let me not seem to have died in vain." The book continues with this: "The astronomer king, who would bow to no man and beg from no king was now bowing to inevitable death and begging Kepler to continue work on the Tychnoic system of the universe." (Pg. 40) Brahe also left his ultimate problem for Kepler to solve. "The most promising and difficult projects are given to the best assistants." (Pg. 57) Brahe gave the problem of Mars to Kepler to solve. And Kepler took the assignment.
Mars was the stepping stone into people realizing that orbits of planets were not round, but elliptical. It took Kepler eight years to figure out the problem. At one point, five years into the project he came up with a model that was better than any other astronomer has ever made. But it was off by the tiniest fraction of a calculation. This would have been enough for any other astronomer of the time, but not for Kepler. He knew something was wrong with that model. He devoted the next three years of his life to figuring out the problem assigned to him by his former teacher. As the book says, he knew it was HIS model that had problems, and "refused to believe that Tycho was simply wrong." (Pg. 64) Now THAT'S devotion.
*sigh* theirloveissohistorical
So, to summarize: They came from two completely different backgrounds to reach one common goal with a passion not seen by anyone else at that time. They started off in a relationship in which they argued and disliked each other and ended up only eighteen months later to finish that relationship on trust, respect, and devotion.
Man I feel like this should be on
