Fun in the hood...

So last night Leo and a few other kids in the neighboorhood were treated to a live beating.
Fun huh?
Let me give you a bit of background.
Two years ago a new guy bought the house next door. Now, despite his claim that he was a carpenter, he did very little to fix up the house. And it had been owned by a very nice old man named Walter who was incapable of repairing much.
The new guy (Paul) rents out the house to a lady named Terri and her boyfriend John (who is native, that becomes important later). No better neighbors could we ever have asked for. They spent a lot of their own money fixing up the place. John is a construction worker by trade and a little hard work isn't new to him.
Things started to get tense between them and the landlord when Paul found out that John, being native, follows his people's religion to the best of his ability (going so far as to doing the sundance recently. Wendy and the kids when to cheer him on at the last day and he was very touched. I wasn't able to attend but sent along a string of 18th century trade beads as a gift for his accomplisment. Dancing for 4 days without food or water can't be easy).
Then the first incident. Paul decided, for whatever reason, that they shouldn't be using the washer and dryer and broke in to remove the 220v plug that powers them. Terri had her brother (an electrician replace it the next day and phoned the tenancy board to complain. They called Paul and the excrement hit the whirlybird) So Paul called and said he'd come over to do some "repairs". When he got on the property, Terri told him to wait because John wasn't around. Paul did'nt wait and forced his way in. Now Terri is not a big woman but she put her hands up to hold him back as best she could. Paul decides he doesn't like some (and these are his words not mine) "indian loving bitch" putting her hands on him so he calls the police to report an assault. Of course the police come by and see immediately what happened and give HIM a warning. Now he's REALLY not happy.
So Terri and John decide to leave the house early (they bought Terri's parents house and move in July1st but the parents are basically out so they let them move in earlier)
Paul now has a COURT ORDER to stay away from the place until the end of the month. He shows up last night to talk to John.
Words are exchanged and when John asks Paul what he wants him to do about a court order, Paul hauls off and sucker-punches him. Broke his jaw in two.
Of course the neighbors all come out and Paul hops in his truck and runs for it.
The Police picked him up last night and arrested him.
John has surgery for his jaw this afternoon.

Not only am I going to miss John and Terri, but now I'm wondering what's going to happen to the house. If Paul wants to be a prick, he'll let any scumbag in there. Right next door to our place.

Leo was VERY upset. John would organize little walks for the kids so they could take their money and go to the "pepsi store" while being supervised. It's only a block or two but this IS the north end after all.
This may sound like a threat, but I WILL do what I have to in order to protect my wife and children. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
