"Death Magnetic" represents a quantum leap back to the past, a merge of "Master of Puppets" (1986) and "... And Justice for All" (1988) but with considerably better sonics. There isn't any one song here quite on par with previous favorites like "Fade to Black," "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," "One" or "Enter Sandman," but overall the cohesive, 74-minute "Death Magnetic" is easily one of Metallica's best albums."
I have to agree with this and not just because i'm such a huge fan. i've heard the whole album and say that while it has the heaviness of such classic Metallica albums of the 80's it still has it's catchy moments. while i still enjoy the 90's Metallica, this has to be their best all out metal album since "...And Justice For All". recommended song: "All Nightmare Long"
