2003 > 2004

2003 > 2004

Except in the case of games, movies, music, music tours, and kick-ass summer vacations. Bah, who am I kidding, that's all I really care about in my life. That and my friends. Just the ones who aren't bastards, though.

This has been a pretty damn good year for videogames, with Ninja Gaiden, Metroid Prime 2, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Far Cry, Manhunt, Metal Gear Solid 3, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Sonic Mega Collection Plus, Star Wars: Battlefront, Unreal Tournament 2004. amongst others including several Resident Evil releases.

I can't really remember 2003's movies aside from The Last Samurai, Underworld, and Kill Bill vol 1, but 2004 had plenty of highly enjoyable movies, including many movies highly regarded by friends and critics I haven't seen/don't really care to anyway. Alexander, Blade: Trinity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Butterfly Effect, The Chronicles of Riddick, Collateral, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, The Girl Next Door, Kill Bill Volume 2, King Arthur, Man on Fire, Miracle, The Phantom of the Opera, Shaun of the Dead, and Troy were all very enjoyable (well, to me). Hell, even DVD releases were good - Star Wars and Lord of the Rings Trilogy - and GI Joe: Valor vs. Venom.

Again, I don't remember many 2003 CDs releases, aside from Dream Evil - Evilized, Sonata Arctica - Winterheart's Guild, Edge of Sanity - Crimson II, Dream Theater - Train of Thought, Suidakra - Signs for the Fallen, Helloween - Rabbit Don't Come Easy, Iron Maiden - Dance of Death, and Einherjer - Blot. However, I was much more involved in the metal community this year, and can say that some of the greatest CDs made in the past few years came this year. For example, Anaal Nathrakh - Domine Nos Es Dignus, Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt, Ayreon - The Human Equation, Darkthrone - Sardonic Wrath, Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor, Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm, Enforsaken - The Forever Endeavor, Ensiferum - Iron, Exodus - Tempo of the Damned, Insomnium - Since the Day it All Came Down, Nightingale - Invisible, Opera IX - Anphisbena, Persuader - Evolution Purgatory, Winds - The Imaginary Direction of Time, Wintersun - Wintersun amongst plenty other fantastic albums. Oh, and you know before 2004 is gone I will post my huge list of 2004 CDs and rank them, etc.

Tours: Iced Earth x 2, Beyond the Embrace, Children of Bodom, Blue Öyster Cult, The Cosmic Brotherhood of Ra, UFO, Megadeth, Exodus > Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Dio, Lacuna Coil, Beyond the Embrace, Helloween

And about the kick-ass summer vacation, well, I don't think I need to remind you.

I guess I could go on for reasons why I think 2003 > 2004, but I don't feel like going there right now. Or ever, probably. I was just happier and more content. I didn't have a great distrust in everything and everyone.
2004 was still a good year though. Haha, mainly for the reasons above. But it still had some good points.

Haha, I was amused when I figured out how to add a "Play Count" to Windows Media Player. I was quite surprised by the outcome. Though, it doesn't count everything before getting my laptop (over the summer), so it explains why most of it's pretty new.

1. The Crown - "In Bitterness and Sorrow" 24

I played the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for awhile (long enough to beat SF3 with Ryu and SF2 with Ryu & Ken). Jesus Christ, why did they have to up the difficulty in SF2, an already challenging game. Now, I'm no sissy, but I had to lower the default difficulty for SF2 (medium). I could not even beat the first person. Not that medium-easy was much better (if not still a little harder than the Genesis version), but it was playable, and after many, many losses, I was able to get through it. I'm pissed they fucked up the costumes though. Ken doesn't even have a red costume at all, and Guile, M. Bison, and Blanka's default color is blue. What the fuck? Of course, you have the opportunity to play as the character from any of the SF2 (hyper, turbo, championship, regular, anniversary, etc.) so you'd have those costumes, but the computer opponents are always that color. It really pisses me off. Street Fighter 3 was pretty cool though.

Hmm, why do I like typing so much...
