Fic Recommendations
Have 3 stories I want to recommend to you all. Many of you have probably already read these, but these stories are so good, just have to put in my two-cents. And the stories are by two of my favorite authors.
The first 2 stories are by gaelicspirit . Her Dean and Sam depictions are so spot on and perfect, I just relish reading her stories and I am slowly making my way through all of her fics. Both of these stories are set in Season 2 and deal with the aftermath and angst that Dean and Sam are going through with the death of John.
' Fix You' is set immediately after Everybody Loves a Clown, starting shortly after Dean takes out his hurt, anger and frustration on the trunk of the Impala. Sam is wanting to help Dean, but not sure how to do it. Dean won't talk to him and there seems to be a disconnect between the brothers. Dean, now needing to procure a trunk lid, sets out to find something and Sam is able to locate one. So Dean and Sam head out on a road trip and literally "crash" into a hunt. There is a good amount of hurt Dean in this one and some good brotherly conversation and love.
'Wolf and Man' is set directly after Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things. Dean had his roadside confession and both boys are dealing with the realization of Dean's thoughts and the fact that John is most likely in hell. At a diner, they come across a possible werewolf hunt and go and explore. Not doing a lot of research beforehand, because Dean is certain what they are up against, they head into the frying pan. There is a wonderful little talk between the boys about a werewolf hunt John was on when they were kids. Sam thought it was a dream, but it was something that actually happened. I loved this interaction between them. As always, there is also a good amount of hurt Dean in this story and some good interplay between the brothers, as well as some great action sequences. Loved this story.
The third story is by dodger_winslow and here we get some great Dean and John interaction. This story is from her Firsts Chart and deals with Dean's first kiss. In ' Freaks and Monsters' Dean is 11-years-old, which would make Sam 7-years-old. We see a lot of the qualities I love so much in the adult Dean already evident in this young kid. His innate goodness, and he is noble, kind and as always, stubborn when it comes to dealing with his feelings. John comes into the story half-way through. I love the way she writes John and how differently he interacts with his boys. He especially knows and understands Dean and knows when to push and when to be tough or gentle. This story deals with a monster of the unSupernatural kind and how John handles the situation is just pure John. You just gotta love this man, despite everything.

No Rest for the Wicked and Lazarus Rising aired on TNT today. A little while ago I asked over at the spnstoryfinders community for fics that dealt with the aftermath of Dean's death and Sam's death back in Season 2. I asked what happened right after their deaths? I wanted to read some fics that dealt with Sam and Bobby burying Dean and the reference Bobby made in Lazarus Rising about how Sam got quiet and just up and left. I only received a couple of recs but one of the stories I received a link for was exactly what I was looking for. This story, 'Requiem for a Hunter' is a one-shot that is part of a bunch of one-shots by poestheblackcat . She has an interesting take on what Sam and Bobby did, one I wouldn't have thought about, but it does seem fitting that Sam would act this way. It is kind of gory in places, but it is a beautiful exposition on what happened after Dean went to hell. Full of angst, pain and tears and one that is definitely worth a read.
