Post-Thanksgiving Week In Review

Dec 06, 2009 13:13

Upon our return from California on a red-eye (albeit first-class thanks to free upgrades) flight we were feeling weirdly productive and did a lot of cleaning around the house. We even cleaned out the fridge.

I had intended to go to the gym on Monday, but ended up working late.

On Tuesday, I came home a bit early to get re-inspected by the energy efficiency consultant. The bad news is that the air-sealing measures we had done didn't really make that big of a difference. He said we won't see any big gains until we have insulation blown into the walls, which is expensive. The good news is, we can get a...$50 reward for the sillbox insulation. :/

More importantly, Tuesday was our 12-year dating anniversary! Now, every year (well, maybe not the first year, I can't remember clearly...but at least the last three) since we've been in Wisconsin there has been a terrible snowstorm that forced us to modify or cancel our plans. Last year we actively decided to just stay home. This year we decided to go old-school and go out for sushi on purpose (and not because it's the only decent place we can walk to in a blizzard like one year). It was good and relaxed and we reminisced a lot. :)

On Wednesday I played L5R. Not a lot of note transpired in-game as it was more of a bookkeeping/shopping/preparation session, but I did win either the new "best roleplayer" award or the "most valuable player" award (I assume the former, as I wasn't that useful) of a bonus XP.

On Thursday, I weighed myself for the first time in a while. Yeesh. Bad times. Both of us started being good immediately, though exceptions will be made for special events (roughly one or two a week this time of year) as long as we make it up the rest of the time. I know I've been bad about eating and exercise since May, mostly due to very frequent social activities and people bringing stuff into work. Anyway, we went to the gym

On Friday...we went to the gym again. ;)

On Saturday we did a lot of party preparation (including taking an actual inventory before we go shopping) and bought a Christmas tree, and mrsmetallian went to the weekly wine tasting while I went to the comic book store for the first time in 10 weeks. (I find it really hard to get there for some reason...their hours and mine don't overlap much.)

After that, we picked up rebeccavich and took her out for a slightly-belated birthday celebration. She wanted to see The Fantastic Mr. Fox, so we did, and it was extremely excellent. I had read that Wes Anderson put a ton of work into it, and it showed. We laughed quite a bit. I feel like it was much more of a "Wes Anderson movie" than a "children's movie," which is to say that while we liked it a lot, I do wonder what an actual child would make of it. Afterward, we went out to Sake Tumi for dinner and drinks (sea bass with sweet miso sauce was great, and I had an amazing cocktail with a ton of ingredients that I now forget except for gin, thai basil, and white cranberry) and Umami Moto for dessert (banana brioche!). We tried to hit the now-nonsmoking Blu for drinks, but it had been taken over by a wedding, so no dice.

For whatever reason, I slept for 10 hours last night. I did wake up a little before 10, but I was, like delirious or something and went back under as if I'd been hit in the head. This happened a few times until 11:30, when my head finally cleared. Weird.

Today: More party prep, and back to the gym!
