Let's see how this week went:
- I have 3 projects (big, medium, and small) going on at work.
- I've been waking up feeling kind of crappy every morning lately and I don't know why. More to the point, I feel so crappy that it wakes me up, so I never get enough sleep. (Moreso than usual, I mean.) It's very frustrating and makes everything else more difficult.
-
kitune,
dark_disciple and T passed through Milwaukee on their way to Montana on Monday.
rebeccavich came over, too, and
mrsmetallian made dinner for us. It was weird-and-cool to have so many friends from Back East actually in our house all the way out here. ^_^
- Skipped the gym on Tuesday night because I worked late.
- L5R game on Wednesday night.
- We had contractors here to fix the roof and other miscellaneous things on Thursday, I skipped the gym again that night because we really, really needed to sort out our travel plans for the next few months and we wanted to do it before our free airfare vouchers expired. Of course, after 45 minutes on hold with Midwest Airlines (because you can only use the vouchers over the phone) my phone battery got critically low before we could complete the reservation. I gave up on attempt number 2 with a different phone after another 45 minutes on hold. We just wrote the vouchers off as a loss. We tried to use them several times, and they're only good for very inconvenient flight schedules anyway. Had I completed that reservation, my trip to Hanover next month would've been rather miserable and the extra day and a half of car rental and eating out would've taken a chunk out of the money I'd have saved anyhow. So arranging various flights (and juggling my PTO schedule at work) basically took an entire evening.
- I worked from home on Friday because the contractors needed another day to work. One of the things we're doing is sealing/insulating our
sill box, because an energy audit identified it as a significant source of heat loss. Unfortunately, the contractors showed up with the wrong kind of (very expensive) spray foam. I was a little suspicious of it but they said the guy who sold it to them said it was fine. I rushed to do some research online and found that the manufacturer of the product specifically says it is not to be used for sill box/rim joist insulation. The contractor then called the manufacturer and got the same answer. So they ordered the proper spray foam and they'll have to come back on Tuesday. It could have been a disaster, though. The moral is: Always keep tabs on what your contractors are doing and don't be afraid to question them.
- That night we hosted a BBQ for
mrsmetallian's department. It was a lot of fun, and I met a lot of cool people. For whatever reason, people were very impressed with my bartending, I don't know if it was our lime squeezer or what. Unlike last year, we did not get ridiculously hammered, which was a good thing.
- Nonetheless, we got to bed extremely late and were tired the next morning. I remembered that I needed to dry-clean my tux for
mdrnprometheus's wedding next weekend and raced out the door to get there before they closed. Since it was supposed to rain the next day, we needed to finish grading the pile of dirt in the back yard where the big tree stump used to be and raking out the biggest of the wood chips all mixed in with it. That took quite a lot longer than we'd anticipated and we ended up rushing out the door for
romsveld's birthday dinner. We ended up at
Brocach Irish Pub, where we had a lot of excellent, hearty food. We got a bunch of appetizers, I had a corned beef sandwich on a pretzel roll and some Young's Double Chocolate Stouts, and tried
Colman's Mustard for the first time. I'm a fan. We were supposed to go out to bars for drinks afterward, but ended up back at
romsveld's where many of us became extremely tired for some reason and ended up calling it a night around 11:30.
- This morning I really ought to go jogging before playing Champions at 12:30.
- Theoretically, this evening I can sort of relax...though I really should start packing for the trip to Seattle on Thursday morning...
