For most of the last bunch of weekends, one or both of us has been either sick, working, or traveling. We've very rarely been free during daylight/business hours to run errands or do yard work or whatnot.
Today is also our 10-year dating anniversary (yay!).
So we were looking forward to obtaining a Christmas tree before the lots have all been picked over, finishing raking the leaves (finally), running assorted errands, and going out on a nice date.
Naturally, while we were out getting a tree and related items, it started snowing. A lot. Hours earlier than predicted. We had to rush through the tree-selection process because the wind was whipping icy shards into our eyes and it was actually hard to see. I managed to nab Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s and Guitar Hero III (for the party) since Best Buy was conveniently located on the way home, but the roads were rapidly getting bad so that was all we managed to accomplish. I managed to clean up some of the leaves around the garage before the snow got to be too much, but that was all.
Since we might abruptly lose power at any time, I don't want to risk using on my desktop, so I can't even work or take care of online errands. (I'm currently using
mrsmetallian's laptop while she prepares dinner.)
On the upside: We processed most of a massive pile of neglected mail (including two credit card bills I very nearly missed - I guess I really have been distracted by work) and built a nice fire. My copy of
Delta Green: Eyes Only finally (6 or 7 years after someone working for the publisher told me it would be published, and about 5 months after I ordered it) arrived, and at first glance it looks really, really good. We've been drinking hot chocolate (hers with peppermint schnapps, mine with cinnamon schnapps) and we'll soon have a nice shabu-shabu* dinner, drink
St. Germain* cocktails and watch a movie (we haven't decided yet, possibly Amelie). Not quite a big-deal anniversary-type outing...but honestly we haven't spent a lot of quality alone time together over the last five months so it's actually pretty exciting!
(Still, I could do without the snow and sleet and extremely loud winds...)
* - Shabu-shabu and St. Germain? Perhaps we should have dedicated our dinner to
toran...
