Bottling!

Aug 11, 2007 17:10

Since this will probably be my last business trip out to California, I arranged it so I'd fly home on Monday instead of Friday. I am spending the weekend at mrsmetallian's family's vineyard, where we have been bottling the 2005 pinot noir and enjoying fine meals and fine company. The bottling process involves some gadgets that are more or less foolproof, so I haven't f'ed anything up yet. It's rather fun, and has helped me clear my head after spending all week doing "knowledge transfer" and documenting the amazingly messy dependencies between various servers in the CA office.

Sadly, I never quite made up the sleep I lost last Sunday and Monday nights. My allergies have also been acting up and I haven't been working out (aside from one half-assed workout on Wednesday morning). So I've felt better, physically. I would really like to arrive at GenCon fully rested, as GenCon's tiring enough as it is. I also need to put the finishing touches on my demo while I'm here.

In retrospect, I should have realized that flying home Monday night and leaving for GenCon on Wednesday morning would not leave me enough time to take care of various things at home before GenCon, but I am having a fine time here and things have a way of working out so whatever.

mrsmetallian's sister and her boyfriend moved to the vineyard recently and they have made a number of improvements, including a gopher-proof vegetable garden and the DSL line I am using right now. Nice!
