At the end of August/beginning of September, I applied for a job at the American Cancer Society. I had two interviews with them, but didn't get the job. I was told that they were looking for someone with more experience. So, imagine my surprise when I get a call from the American Cancer Society today. They have another opening in their office and wanted to know if I was still interested in the position. I said that I was, so now they'll probably call me again sometime this week to set up another interview with them. I know they are still considering other candidates, so I don't want to get my hopes up. Back in September I thought I had a really good chance at getting the job, and I don't want to be disappointed again. The man I talked to said that he remembered that he was very impressed with me after our interview. I guess he wasn't impressed enough to actually offer me the job, but, whatever. I just find all of this funny because the ACS job was the very first job that I applied for, and sadly, it has been the only place that I have interviewed with. Now I just have to wait and see how things develop.
I haven't read any new books lately. I just haven't felt like reading, which I am blaming on video games. When I was younger, I used to love playing video games. I was the most addicted when we had a Super Nintendo. I think my favorite games were Aladdin and the Donkey Kong series. After Super Nintendo, we got a Nintendo 64. I played a Donkey Kong game with that one, but I really got into the Zelda game (I can't remember the name). Anyways, this was all years ago, and I haven't played any video games since. My brother and sister share a Playstation 2, and I've been really bored lately, so my sister convinced me to play Kingdom Hearts. I finally beat it the other day and just started on the sequel today. I should step away from the games for awhile and get back to reading. I read about the first 15 pages of both Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and To Say Nothing of the Dog. I'm not sure which one I'll continue reading.
Over the weekend I saw Apocalypto. I felt kind of guilty seeing it because of Mel Gibson, but I thought that it looked like an interesting movie. I feel like it's one of those situations where you have to separate the art from the artist. Anywho, I liked the film. I got to see it on the super screen, which was cool because the scenery was beautiful. The actors looked great in their costumes and did a good job speaking the language. It was a violent film, but that didn't really bother me too much. What did bug me, however, were the historical inaccuracies. As a Spanish major, I have studied the Maya, Aztec, and Inca numerous times. I think the movie would have been more accurate if they just made it the Aztecs instead of the Mayans. Basically, I enjoyed the film, but feel a little guilty about it.
