Last night I went to the Arcade Fire concert. Two words to sum up the evening/show: FUCKING AWESOME. And now more words: Damn, they are so kick-ass live. The whole band has so much energy. They sound great and look like they are having a ton of fun. After watching them, I felt a strong urge to jump up on stage and join them.
I went with my sister, and we had seats, so we weren't on the floor. Our seats were pretty good though. We sat through the opening act, but stood for the main one. The National was the opening act and they did a good job. I was worried for the lead singer's voice because he did a lot of screaming. Since I'm not familiar with their music, I had a hard time hearing them clearly, and I don't feel that I can really judge how well I liked their music. I just downloaded a bunch of their stuff, so I'm going to listen and see how I feel about them. This reminds me of when I went to see Franz Ferdinand, and Born Ruffians was the opening act. The sound at the venue wasn't so great, so I couldn't really judge their music properly. When I got home, I listened to some of their songs, and they are now one of my favorite bands. I'll see what happens with The National.
Back to the concert...The National performed for an hour, and then there was a half hour break while like 20 people were on the stage setting up for Arcade Fire. Arcade Fire came out at nine and performed for about an hour and a half. As I already mentioned before, they were wonderful. My only complaint is that the show went by way too fast! Here's the setlist if you're curious to see what they played:
Month of May
Rebellion (Lies)
Neighborhood #2 (Laika)
No Cars Go
Haiti
Rococo
We Used to Wait
Sprawl I (Flatland) (this was the first time they played it live)
The Suburbs
Intervention
Keep the Car Running
Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
Wake Up
Encore:
Ready to Start
Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
You weren't supposed to bring cameras into the venue, but I don't think they really cared. I got patted down before I entered, and they also looked in my purse. The security woman saw my camera, but she just told me not to use it because it had a long lens. I did use it though (oops). There was no security around where I was sitting/standing, so no one could stop me. People were freaking smoking weed on the floor, so I think using my camera pales in comparison. I waited until the end of the show to bring it out. Most of my pictures just didn't come out, but that always seems to happen at concerts. A few of them are actually pretty decent though, so I'll post those. I also took a few videos, so I'll share those as well.
Not a good picture, but this is pretty much what my view looked like from where I was standing
The majority of my photos are of the singers (Win Butler and Régine Chassagne) because they're the only ones that really turned out. I feel bad for the rest of the band though, so here are two blurry shots of them.
Walking off the stage and waving goodbye
Now the videos! I apologize in advance for my crappy camera work. I tried my best.
This is the last two minutes of Wake Up. The first 20 seconds of this one are atrocious. I started recording, but I wasn't really ready, so the camera is moving all over the place.
A little snippet of Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
I recorded this one for the ribbon dancing, not the music
