No one can touch the Gene Genie

Last night I finally finished watching Life on Mars (the UK version). I had been meaning to start watching this show a long time ago, but I kept missing it when it was on TV, and then when it finally came out on DVD, I kept choosing to get other things in my Netflix queue. Anywho, I finally did start watching it and got one disc each week, so it ( Read more... )

Everyone at SF seems to like The Likeness more, but it was slower to me than In The Woods. I really liked the latter all the way till the end when I thought the dialogue got weird and sloppy (on the suspect's part at least). For some reason, French's conclusions leave me wanting more in a bad way. It's like something is missing for me everytime I finish one of her novels.

Yeah, I also thought that things got a little weird with the suspect during the end of In the Woods, but I guess I was still okay with how French wrapped everything up. That's interesting that you feel that way about the conclusions of French's books. I'll pay close attention to the end of The Likeness and see if I feel that way too. I better get reading because I'm curious to find out if I end up liking one book more than the other.

The dialogue got so cheesy and clichéd at the end of In The Woods. It took me by surprise cuz it seemed like a different (and less superior) writer had taken over the dialogue.

I finished The Likeness earlier this evening. I think I felt something like you did - I wasn't very satisfied with the conclusion and it seemed like it was lacking something. What that something is, I can't exactly say. While, for the most part, I did enjoy The Likeness, I kind of had a problem with the whole premise; it was just too unbelievable. If I compare the two books, I would say that I liked In the Woods more.
