Ugh, I don't want to go back to work tomorrow. I know I'm going to have a hell of a time trying to fall asleep tonight. I've been staying up late and sleeping in late, so my schedule is all messed up. I'm just trying to look on the bright side - I'm only working Monday and Tuesday and then taking the rest of the week off. I really wish that I could have taken Monday and Tuesday off too (that would have given me a full two weeks of vacation), but I have to come in to finish up some things before the end of the year.
This past week of vacation has been very nice and relaxing. I didn't do much though. I went shopping and then spent time with various relatives during Christmas Eve and Christmas. I was able to catch up with some TV shows and also watch some movies. I made it to the movie theater once and first saw Slumdog Millionaire and then snuck into Marley & Me. Slumdog Millionaire was so freakin' good. Everyone should definitely see it. Marley & Me was good too, but I probably could have waited and rented it. The theater we saw it in was packed. Every time they showed Marley as a puppy, tons of people would say, "Awww." Heh, that was really funny. Towards the end of the movie, I could hear a ton of people sniffling and blowing their noses. If I had been by myself, I would have cried a ton too. But as I hate to cry in public, I was able to hold the tears in. I still really want to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I might see it on New Year's Eve, but if I don't, I'll probably see it next weekend.
I didn't read as much as I would have liked over the short break. I did finish one book (Colors of the Mountain by Da Chen) yesterday, and then started another right away. That book was Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. That book was addicting, and I quickly got sucked into the story. I ended up finishing it today. It was really good, but now I feel a bit depressed. Even though it ends kind of happily, all of the murder stuff was a downer. That will probably be the last book that I read in 2008. That means that I read 66 books this year. I beat last year's record by four books, so I'm pleased. I was kind of hoping to make it to 70, but I think I'll make that next year's goal.
I almost went to the zoo today. During this time of year, our zoo has "Holiday Magic." The zoo is open late and there are tons of lights and other holiday activities. We wanted to go yesterday because it was abnormally warm. The only problem was that it rained all day. I wasn't really feeling up to going today. It's my last day of vacation, and I was feeling lazy and didn't want to have to deal with the cold. Holiday Magic goes on until Wednesday, so there's still time if we want to go. Tomorrow would actually be a good day, but I have to work. Boo.
