Thanksgiving

I recently got back to Purchase from this year's Thanksgiving break, and it was a decent time, for all three days that it lasted. It started out rather terribly- my mother as supposed to pick me up from Purchase on Wednesday afternoon, which was already a day after everyone else I knew here was leaving campus. Unfortunately, she didn't show up at all, and when I tried to call her at home no one answered the phone, so I ended up getting stuck in my dorm room for all of Wednesday completely by myself. For a while I went online and played video games, but even that got boring after a while, not to mention the fact that I didn't get to eat the entire time since all the food places on campus were closed for break by then.

Finally, at midnight, I got fed up and wasted $25 on a cab to take me home, but even after I got to Scarsdale I had no way of getting into my apartment since my mom wasn't there and my grandmother was asleep and couldn't hear the doorbell, so I had to sit out in the hallway for two hours before my grandmother finally woke up and let me in. I was pretty upset with my mother by then, but when she came back the next morning she claimed that she did come to Purchase the day before, she just didn't bother contacting me and wandered around knocking on random apartment doors trying to find me before giving up and going out to her friend's house for the night. But on the bright side, I got her to pay me back for the money I spent on the cab, so I guess it wasn't a total loss.

On Thanksgiving Day, my mother and I went to our cousin Linda's house to celebrate the holiday with our relatives, and I don't think I've ever been as genuinely grateful for food as I was that night. I hadn't eaten anything at all in well over a day, and I was practically starving by that point, so having a nice big family dinner seemed like a miracle. The food was really good too; after months of crappy college food, it was so refreshing to have a delicious meal of turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes followed by a scrumptious dessert of brownies and pumpkin cheesecake.

The rest of the break was rather uneventful, and rather boring a lot of the time. I bought some supplies and food to take back to Purchase with me, and got a much needed haircut, though I think my hair may actually be a bit too short now. Oh, and during one night I got a 3 a.m. visit from Lereona, a girl I knew through one of my classmates from Salesian who I used to talk to online during my Senior year of high school. I never met her in person before, but she was bored too and figured she'd stop by since I only live a few minutes away from her now. We went out to get dinner/breakfast at the White Plains Diner, and as strange as it was going out to get food with someone I barely knew in the middle of the night, I was glad to have something to do for a change.

Actually getting back to Purchase after break was almost as difficult as leaving was. My mother was originally supposed to take me back on Sunday so I'd be able to make it to my Monday afternoon class, but she went out for most of the day and was too tired to drive me when she got back. The next morning, we had to rush out so I could make it to class on time, but we ended up leaving a lot of stuff behind, so my mother had to take me back home once my class was over. Then she ended up going out for most of the day again, so it was around 9:30 at night when she was finally ready to take me and the rest of my belongings back to school. But while it was nice to get away for a little while, I'm glad to finally be back on campus for now, even though I am a bit nervous about the upcoming finals.
