Summer's ending

Today is the last day of summer vacation for me, and what a break it's been. The summer might have started out boring and lonely, but the second half of it certainly picked up. Back in mid-July, I went up to visit Kristin's place in Albany for one last time before she moved out. Derek, Kristin, Michael, and I all stayed there for about two weeks, and had a great time there partying and visiting places in Albany. At one point we went to this really beautiful park with this massive waterfall and a great view of the valley surrounding the entire city. On August 2nd, the time came for us to finally say goodbye to Kristin's apartment, and I can't say I won't miss it. Kristin's lived there since the beginning of last September, and we had a lot of good times there together, but Kristin's switching to a college downstate for next semester and I suppose that's for the best. After moving out, I spent the next few days visiting Derek and Kristin again at their homes in Yorktown and visiting Steve, who I hadn't seen since the end of May.

After that, I set off on a two-week journey to the distant land of Morocco to visit my father again. Like last year, my father and I stayed in an apartment by the beach on the country's northern shore for most of the trip, only visiting the main cities of Rabat and Casablanca for my first and last days there. I spent most of my time swimming and reading 'Lone Wolf and Cub', an excellent manga series Derek lent to me before I left, although it did get boring there at times. We rarely ever left the resort we were staying, and no one around spoke English except my father and to some degree his current wife. I also came down with a stomach illness for a little while, and while it wasn't anywhere near as bad as what happened to me last year it was still a very unpleasent experience. Even so, I was glad to have gone there to see my dad and his parents and his newest son once more, although I was also happy when it came time to go back to the United States.

I came back to New York this Tuesday, and rested at home in Scarsdale for a night before taking a bus up to Syracuse to visit Sara. It was great finally seeing her again, I hadn't been around her in person since school ended and I had missed her a lot. I got to take a tour of her family's farm and see all the scary looking equipment there, and got to meet her parents, stepmom, and brother. We spent the night at her friend Leeann's place, along with a bunch of her other friends from home, and the next day we all went to the New York State Fair together. The fair was absolutely amazing, we got to see all kinds of strange and mysterious animals and played games and went on rides and got all sorts of neat stuff and so much more! My description really doesn't do it justice, it was better than any other amusement park or carnival I've been to before. Anyway, I stayed over Sara's house last night, and today Sara's mom drove us down to her uncle's house in Connecticut, where we're currently staying. We're going back to Purchase tomorrow morning, and class starts again on Monday, but I really enjoyed the last few weeks of this summer.
