My birthday isn't until next week, but Mom gave me my present Monday night. I got We Love Katamari(PS2), which I had been wanting for a long time. I played it for hours and it only felt like five minutes.
For anyone who hasn't played a Katamari game, here's the deal. In the first game, Katamari Damacy(PS2), you are the Prince. Your father, the King of the Cosmos has blown up all the stars in the sky. He sends you to Earth with a goofy looking ball(your Katamari)to roll stuff up. The things you roll up will be turned into stars and constellations. You begin each level really tiny. The largest thing you can pick up may be a thumbtack or piece of caramel candy. By the end of the final level(Make the Moon)you are rolling up stadiums, skyscrapers, Godzilla, islands, and hurricanes. Katamari is a simple game. All of the Prince's movements are controlled with the left and right analog sticks. Along the way you also can find and roll up Royal Presents the King throws to Earth. After you beat the game you can replay each level and find and roll up your cousins. There are also three unlockable eternal levels. To unlock the eternal levels you must reach a certain size. Angels will fly around your Katamari. At the end when you return to space the King will tell you you unlocked that level in eternal mode. You can now roll around as long as you like with no time limit or size requirement.
In We Heart Katamari, the King once again sends the Prince to Earth. They have many fans due to their work in Katamari Damacy. Now you have to work to fulfill your fans' requests and make stars to replace the ones missing in the rest of the universe. You still have to find Royal Presents and you can find and roll up your cousins without having to beat the game first this time. Any cousin you roll up(and don't drop) will be available in the Select Meadow for you to play as. One of your fans is a young aspiring sumo wrestler. In this level, he is you Katamari. You roll him around the town collecting different foods. When you think he's big enough, take him to the park where his sumo opponent is and roll him up. Another fan is a dog. The dog has no friends and his request to the King of Cosmos is to be his friend. The King sends the prince back to Earth to roll up friends at the zoo for the dog.
There is a third game, Me and My Katamari, for PSP. Since I do not have a PSP or know anyone who has one, I haven't played this one. I've wondered what it would be like, since the PSP only has one analog stick.
I think Katamari might adapt to the Wii quite well.
