Back from the undead

A few interesting developments. One being my new job. I now work for Charlson Broadcasting Technologies as a Simulcast Technician. Basically that means I route video signal and input race changes to be sent out to the parimutuel gambling public. It's pretty cool.

Wedding planning is actually pretty fun. I don't know why people freak out about this stuff. Maybe cos they go crazy expensive and complex. We're just going the fun awesome route instead. We have a lot figured out already. Stephanie's dad joked that we'd have the whole thing planned by Christmas. That is now our personal goal. Looking more like August 26 will be the date. Still going to be at Mt. Airy Forest's Maple Ridge Lodge. And the cool thing about having an outdoor wedding in August is that it means that us guys won't have to wear full tuxes. Don't want to roast to death or nuthin. And the weather should be really nice. So hopefully everyone will have almost as much fun as Steph and me.

Too many people are afraid of commitment. No, not talking about the marriage kind. Really more the religious and political type. First of all, no matter what you may say or think, Christianity is a religion. Yes, it's a very unique kind, as it involves a relationship with God and is in fact THE true one, but a religion nonetheless. I just don't see what is so wrong with wanting to label oneself as what one actually is. But a lot of Christians seem to shun the terms. Sometimes I feel almost archaic by even admitting that I'm a Protestant, mush less something like [gasp]! Baptist (though I'm not really sure how much that one applies now). I dare not even utter that dreadful word "fundamentalist" (for different reasons, maybe). Side note: I still find it sadly funny that we as Christians still reject some things because they are "old ways of thinking" and embrace some things just because they are new. Are we forgetting the differences between absolute truth and moral relativism?

Anyway, I guess that it's the modern trendy Christian thing to deny the fact that it's a religion. But here's how Webster defines religion: the service and worship of God or the supernatural. Sounds ok to me. Are we just afraid of sounding "unenlightened"? Maybe we just need to take that word back. It's really an ok thing to have, this religion.

This just really seems ironic to me. Those against the concept of religion are usually the "labels disable" crowd. But what they're doing is labeling. With montras such as "religion kills" they are making a generalization and are lumping the good religious practice of Christianity with harmful practices, both of Cristianity and other religions. Not really fair.

Hm. "Religion kills." So does cholesterol, but we don't really seem to care.

Whatever your beliefs are, there's a name for it somewhere. As much as you may fear it, you are something. So label yourself, or don't. Whatever. I just hope you don't mind that I call myself what I am, and proudly.

Same for politics, pretty much. Only it goes a bit further. People don't just fear labeling their views, but even having views to begin with. I know that the two parties, or even conservative, liberal, socialist, libertarian, etc. do not fit everyone perfectly. But they do fit some of us. I am pretty much a conservative Republican. Don't fear what you are. And if people don't like your label, screw 'em.
