What up! I realized yesterday I haven't updated in a while (I read everyday though).
After a two week break when volleyball finished I talked to the head girls basketball coach and I'm now an assistant coach for her. I'm not paid, nor do I have my own squad, so there is a lot more flexibility for me. There have been a couple practices now where I've been able to leave half way through to go to band practice. Wanda (head coach) and Kurt (JV) are very knowledgeable about the game and will help me learn a lot. They both listen to my suggestions and talk things through with me which is what I need as a younger coach (I got NONE of this this year in volleyball, some last year in volleyball, and very little when I was a middle school basketball coach). During last night's game I charted the other teams' defense so we could make adjustments better. It's all about learning right now and that's what I'm doing. It's such a great situation as I have some of my volleyball players in the basketball program and Wanda runs a real tight ship. I'm lucky and very happy that I am able to help.
Band is picking up again, slowly. Kyle had finals and projects the last two weeks and wasn't able to make the couple practices we had. We have some new material that we're working on. We're re-working an older song that's been played live only twice, two that I wrote, and stuff by Grant and Ryan. One of mine was originally inspired by U2, kind of mixing "I Will Follow," Where the Streets Have No Name," and some of their more rocking material. When it's finally done I'm not sure if anyone will hear that influence, but it's there for me. My second is being referred to as "Disco 2" at the moment because it's another bassy song with a dance beat (when Dan plays it right!). Grant's song is all done, musically, but I'm pretty sure it will be a tough one to put lyrics and a vocal melody too. Ryan's isn't much more than two bass parts at the moment. Dan also wrote a little thing on guitar but we need to finish the ones that are closest to being done (my 3, including the older one, and Grant's) before we get to the other two.
The album will hopefully be done in January. Damian, who like Kyle has finals and projects these last couple weeks, will probably be done with his art touch ups in a week or so. Then the album should be off to the presses. Everything else is done except Ryan is going to fix one little thing on a song. It's funny to think that we've probably worked on that song for a year now, on and off.
That's all for now. More later!
