IT'S AN ENTRY
AND ITS ONLY TWO DAYS AFTER THE LAST ONE
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE
Anyways, yeah, this is a rarety to post an entry so soon after my last entry but my day was actually worth writing about today which is pretty rare too so they cancel each other out.
There was some kind of festival at school today, I'm not sure if it was a special occasion or they just realized they had money left in the entertainment budget so they decided to go on a spending spree. The festivites were mainly in A Building with food over in B Building and for once the festivities were actually kind of cool. They had a shooting arcade game and a couple of linked-up racing arcades in the commons area along with free Stuff-A-Bears for the people who got there first. It was probably Build-A-Bear but then I always figured Build-A-Bear was more involved than just stuffing a premade bear, zipping him up and getting a birth certificate. Of course I got there too late, or accurately I got there on time but by the time I figured I should get a bear they were all gone. They also had one of those theme photo set-ups, it was a Western themed one where you could choose your cowboy outfit and pose in front of a sheet backdrop and the photo came out in a little paper Wanted poster frames. I opted out of it because a) I think it would have looked pretty sad only having a picture with one person in it and b) I thought the frames were a bit too cheesy for my taste. Also there were a couple of club sign-up forms, though I don't think it was any formal club member gathering event that all this stuff was for. I put my name down on the list for joining the Japan Club so I hope I hear something back from them soon. I haven't been in a club since high-school so I really wanna join another one. Clubs = fun.
The star of the show was the DDR machine. Not only did it take center stage because it was flashy and loud but because there were some badass players on there. My favorite was an Asian kid, he was tall and skinny and seemed to be the master of all dancing. He actually danced to the music, he moved around the pads with light feet and even though I was watching he didn't seem to be hitting them. He did spins and stuff so there were seconds at a time he didn't look at the screen but he still kicked butt. Honestly he looked like he was dancing on his own and the game was following him he was that damn good. Compared to the foot-stomping panel-smashers he played against he looked like he could win any game. He did eventually lose which makes me wonder how awesome it must be to watch a DDR tournament and see all those expert dancers.
B Building was where all the food was. They had hamburgers, hot dogs, and ice cream which were all delicious sounding but I didn't want to stand out in the sun for 20 minutes for any stinkin hot dog I'll tell you what. They had mini-golf out on the lawn there and this one jumping thing where you were strapped in a harness attached to a couple of long flexible rods. What you had to do was bounce of this trampoline that was on the ground and because of the rods you were lifted higher than usual and your decent was slower than usual. This seemed pretty fun but nobody was riding it except for a couple of kids, the rest of the people were standing in line for the free food so I didn't want to do it where everyone would notice. :P I know that was pretty dumb but whatever.
After all that excitement I went home and made myself some lunch. This is probably where most entries would end but because this is me I can still make a mess of making myself lunch even though I'm a big boy now. I made myself some "nutted pilaf" which is basically seasoned rice with random nuts and seeds in it. I've been on an "anything but Hot Pockets" kick for three days running and I've made myself some pasta product for the last couple of days. I had couscous on Monday and some kind of Mexican rice dish Tuesday and nutted pilaf today. I was able to cook it up okay until the final instruction which was kind of a stickler for me. It said to simmer on low heat for 20 to 25 minutes before serving it up but when I turned it down to low I noticed a distinct lack of any simmering action. I think the basis of though for my next action was from the instructions on microwave food where they say that not all microwaves are the same power and cooking time may vary. I thought maybe I needed to turn the heat up to make it simmer which I did and it did. Satisified I put the lid on the pot and sat around for 20-25 mintues until lo and behold my nut rice was fit for human consumption. Or the majority of it, to be more accurate. It turns out that while turning up the heat made it simmer faster it made the liquids soak into the rice more quickly and near the end the rice was just burning. It didn't smoke or catch on fire or anything so I didn't know what was going on but when I started digging out progressively blacker pieces of rice my panic grew. I dug out the rest of the rice and kind of flailed around in panic for a while. Both washcloth and fingernail proved to inefficient for the task so I turned to the trusty power of the Internets to guide me in my time of need. The first suggestion for light burn was to fill the pan with hot water and dump a crapload of salt in it and let it sit. I deluded myself into thinking my mess was small because I didn't want to realize it wasn't plus the salt treatment for a large burn required it to sit overnight in the salt solution. That kind of time I didn't have. I let it sit in the salt solution for a couple of hours and scrubbed it for a bit but realized even the power of massive amounts of salt couldn't beat this mess. I decided to try the Coke method and dumped a couple of cans of Coke in the pan with a dash of Diet Cherry Generic Soda for flavor. I let that sit for another couple of hours and scrubbed at it some more. It wasn't a miracle cure but I got the vast majority of it off. There are still some burnt spots in the bottom but considering what it used to look like I'm pleased with the results.
Wow. This turned out a lot more wordy than I thought. Think I'll cut it off here, it should be enough me for you, and if it isn't you need professional help :P
