Whoa! I debate logged in, thank you muchly, and I don't use the word "dood" when trying to prove a point.
I had to look back to see what you were talking about- but yeah, how fucking arrogant of you! Like, I respect you Mike, but what a bad, classist, bullshit argument you made. Seriously, whether intended or not, you sound like an arrogant jerk who doesn't want to have to deal with the fact that there are poor people, because obviously they did something wrong to get into that place lower than thou. A person in need of low income housing likely isn't covered in dirt and cradling a bottle of whiskey, they look like a normal fucking person who may have made some wrong choices or been fucked over (abuse, discrimination, lack of education) at some point in their lives. A person in need of affordable housing might look like, hmm, I don't know, my mom? "We won't be living in them..." Maybe you won't, but someone you know might, so shut your mouth.
What kind of ass are you to say someone can't live in your town because they might fuck up that nice upper-middle class vibe you've got going?

Sorry I'm getting so heated at you (but seriously, "low lifes"?), maybe you didn't intend to come off this way at all, but you did, so watch your words if you're trying to make a decent argument.

I was the first anonymous person, and I said dood to indicate to Mike that it was me. I don't have an el-jay...doods.

The second person? Who knows. Two completely different anonymous people. Just to let you guys know.

Seriously, calm down. You're style of argument will one day get you punched in the face, not by me of course, but some of the myriad people you insult while fighting. If you'd like me to go through past comments and dig some of this up, I'd be glad to.

Secondly, I'm not the classist one here. You mark upper middle class as seeing poor people as "covered in dirt and cradling a bottle of whiskey". We working people are terrible aren't we?

Everything in your language suggests a persecution complex as well. You direct everything at yourself, and say that the lower classes are in their position because of chance. This may be the case in some instances, but by and large, wrong choices are still the choosers fault, and lack of education is no excuse.

But to get to the crux here, It is not fair to force people who are living a comfortable lifestyle by their own means to accept people into their area with no work.

Do you think my family has always had money? Do you think we have money now? My parents worked hard to get where we are, and you have no right to criticize them. You mark me as some sort of upper class robber baron, but you have no idea how much it took to get where we are. Insensitive and ignorant? Yes!

So seeing what my family had to go through to get success and to live in a nice area, it makes me angry to see people who have not risen to that level being placed in my area. Plus, it costs 50 million dollars, and trees will be felled for development. I know you hate the environment, but jeez.

So seriously, maybe discard some of your classist and prejudiced ideas about people who disagree with you, and start being calm and rational. Your first line in any argument is usually a "fuck you". You might want to work on that, people will likely not take you seriously and condescend to you like a child (like I am doing now)

A final note, you live in Burrillville too, by your logic Burrillville="nice upper-middle class vibe" You are from Burrillville, thus...well you do the math. Ciao!

Haha, an animal picture meme is a way better way to start an argument than "fuck you". Which I never said, but I see what you're getting at- I use a lot of swears. Because I get angry. You're right, I should probably work on that.

Also: You are classist, man. Sorry. As for my idea that you (not upper class or upper middle or any group of people in general) see poor people in stereotypes, what else can I infere from words like "low life" and "we working people"- are you assuming that people in need of affordable/low-income housing don't work? Your words even lead me to believe that they're choosing not to work. That, son, is classist. Everyone's got predjudices, even me, don't pretend you don't.

And I didn't say anything about your family. Calm down.

If you made a rational argument about it costing too much and the poor having to help themselves, I would have moved on. But there is prejudice in your argument that you're denying. Not cool.

Unfortunately, Michael is not classist. If you think that this is so, then obviously you have no idea where he came from. Our family has always been working class until recently and if you think that placing "low income" housing in someone's backyard won't cause a reaction among any class then you are wrong. I am the opposite of classist; class is a subject most people won't talk about and that's not an exception at my school, though I work to change that in my own work. Race and gender tend to be discussed more freely. Bringing money into things complicates everything, for most people. So when I heard that across the street from my house low income housing would be built, I was a little unnerved. First, low income housing does have the tendency to lower property values in the surrounding area. Often, low income housing causes high mortgages in a residential area. In some cases, low income housing will increase crime rates in an area. This is not classist. These are statements proven by over fifty years of the urban crisis, and if you don't think its true then read Thomas Sugrue's book about Detroit. I'm not saying that lower class citizens shouldn't be able to have affordable housing, of course they should, I just worry about my parents stock in the neighborhood. So stop calling my brother classist because he cares about his neighborhood.

Thank you for explaining the point clearly. I'm finally understanding the reasoning. I may not agree, but I understand.

Sorry that this got out of hand. The words "low lifes" sparked this whole thing. That happens on the internet.

image macros lighten the mood of an argument. You never said "fuck you" but you called me arrogant, an ass. Ad hominem will get you no where, dear.

You accuse me of stereotypes, then, you stereotype me. Quit being such a hypocrite. I never said I didn't have prejudices.

Plus, I've said it costs too much no less then three times. You may recall the words "50 million" somewhere. This only demonstrates you haven't been reading anything I've said and are only in this argument to state your own points. Instead of actually arguing points you insult me then call me classist.

I'm sorry, I will calm down about my family. You didn't get angry at all when this argument struck close to home. Not a bit.

Wait, struck close to home? My town, situations of my family? Situations of your family? Each of us getting angry? You telling me to calm down? What?

I have made rational arguments:
1.Cost
2.Environment
3.Degrading area
4.Unfairness to current residents

Your arguments:
1.I ignore you
2.You are arrogant
3.You are an ass
4.You are classist
5.Housing is good

Hmm.

You're misunderstanding. I have been reading what you said, that's why I repeated the rational points of your argument. See, on that list, the first two are unbiased arguments. Huzzah. The third and fourth points, in my view, don't make as much sense, and those points combined with your negative language tell me that they probably come from a prejudice, and I think you should examine it. That's all I'm trying to get at.

PS, we both know question 9 was already decided so continuing this increasingly mean-spirited argument is kind of pointless.

/lj-drama?

You started it, child.

Argument 3: Ever heard of urban sprawl? Ever heard of increased population increasing development? Thus, regardless of income, more people=more shit in Burrillville that will turn the area into another Woonsocket.

Argument 4: You work hard for many years to collect lollipops. Suddenly, the government decides to give lollipops to anyone who wants them. At a discount. In addition, to make all these other lollipops, they're going to want pieces of your lollipops to melt down. Making sense? Its unfair to work hard for something special and have someone your endeavors worthless.

I feel that I can't make this any clearer. And no, my arguments do not come from prejudice, they come from logic, and an earnest desire to protect my family's investments. Your arguments are based on a persecution complex e.g. I don't agree with you, thus there is something wrong with me.

Now, I know that you're backing out because you feel defeated, but come now, fight to the death.

As for continuing "mean spirited" argument? Me=experienced troll

Did you read my reply on your sister's comment? I think she made the point clearly, without being condescending.
I understand now, but disagree.
I was started by the word "low lifes". That's it. That's all this really should have been about. You used a word that set me off and now I'm done talking about it.

I know you want to go on so you can feel superior when I get sick of it and stop arguing back, so, uh, go ahead: I give up, you are king troll.
