I got another email from sensei:
"Since Americans have such a short memory, let's go back just a few years.
A reminder before you vote today."
He lists a video which shows the democrats supporting Clinton's decision to bomb Iraq for its suspected chemical and nuclear weapons. Sorry, democrats, this happened, and you can't deny it.
Unfortunately, this email shows a lot of hypocrisy. First, the democrats messed up, admit it, they got that wrong. However, how does this make republicans any better? This video only shows how America as a whole has screwed up concerning Iraq. It doesn't, however, excuse the republicans, or any of the senators that voted for the war. Republicans need to learn that just bashing the other side does not fix your problems.
List of political things:
The GOP has done a number of things in office, lowered taxes, squandered a fiscal surplus, started an aggressive war, failed to plan properly for that aggressive war, and has no plans to properly end that aggressive war. They have also stood by holding America back scientifically, not allowing stem cell research, cloning, and even trying to force religion in schools.
They have also started an endless "war on terror" to keep Americans afraid and voting republican. Terrorism is preventable, and yes we should work to prevent it, but at its heart, its an ideology. It can't be beaten.
The democrats have been lead, weakly, into everything the republicans have done. They have no spine, no cohesive message, and no charisma, but damn it, they're not republicans.
Personal gripes:
Republican constituents (I'm looking at you....everyone I know) have always used this line:
"You don't have the right to insult him. He's our president, damn it, respect the office, and what he believes"
You honestly think that because a man that I didn't vote for an whose policies I don't support is the president, that I'll just go along with him doing what he wants to my country just because he's the president?
If your answer to that was yes, republicans, just think, next time we have a democratic president that is doing all the things you hate, I'll be there to remind you to "respect the office" and go along with whatever he/she/ gay-transgender- abortion-loving-peace-mongering-liberal-jackass wants. RESPEKT!
What I hate most about the political climate is the sense that the society is heading towards some impending doom. That if we allow gays to marry, the fabric of society will unwind. They are already having sex, whats the big deal? Will them getting married change anything? They live together, have sex, adopt children, what are you trying to prevent?
Why do you stand in the way of science? Why is God law? Why are fetuses more important to you than living, sentient, people with hearts and dreams? You'll send soldiers to die, absolve your own guilt with a hearty "I support our troops", and flip out when a clump of cells dies. Yes, clump of cells. A fetus is no more human than your eyeball. But still, I can understand objections to abortion, I really do. But stem cell research, no. You would rather throw away aborted tissue than use it help cure Alzheimer's? Think, Ronald Reagan could still be alive if we had stem cell research.
Final Thoughts:
I'll be voting pretty republican today. Chafee, Carcieri, No on 1 and 9 (seriously, no on 9. Thats for putting shitty low income housing in areas like Burrillville.) But I stand by what I have said.
If any of you dares to accuse me of not "supporting our troops" or hating America, I say, with a rousing and lucid chorus, go to hell you fascist pig.
