It's been a while since I've actually sat down to watch a whole anime series. I watched RahXephon about half a year ago, and more recently, the unfinished Naruto Shippuden.
First, I'll have to state the obvious: the ratings I might give are subjective. They reflect my own tastes and biases, other of you might think otherwise. With that out of the way, I shall commence.
Let me give a broad interpretation of my scaling. I use a 10 point scale even I don't expect to give any 10s for the most part.
10 = Exceptional. Absolutely must see.
9 = Good. Solid and has some beyond exceptional parts. I would probably recommend you to watch this.
8 = Solid. A strong solid anime that keeps your interest.
7 = Amusing. Keeps you interested enough to keep watching, but few or no exceptional parts.
6 = Slightly above 5. Has a few interesting parts above "meh".
5 = Not bad, but not good either. The "meh" kind of anime you watch when you're bored.
4- = You probably will not wanna watch any anime I rate below 5.
Keep in mind that I have a high tolerance for crap. I tend to give scores that are higher than they should be. I managed to sit through the whole series of To Heart. I must say though, I didn't enjoy it; it would definitely rate under 5.
Without further ado...
I think I would give Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu a 7.5. Haruhi is silly humor comedy with a tablespoon of seriousness and pinch of waffiness. Perhaps you think the score is over inflated, but I must admit waffiness scores brownie points with me. I'm just a sucker for it. *AHEM* Anyhow, for the bad parts first.
I must caution it did get rather boring a few times. Seeing Haruhi slamming Kyon around and stripping Mikuru at every chance is not really my bag. The series also could have done without episode 1 (i.e. episode 11). I just didn't find The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina very necessary to the series. The series, as with most comedies, lack a real plot. The closest I could find to any underlying theme was something along the lines of "Don't live a boring routine life. Throw a bit of risk in there and try something new everyday."
There were a few amusing parts however. Nothing really "LMAO" funny though. Just enough to get in a snicker here and there. It did have a few cute parts to it too. Although I didn't really pay attention to any of the background music, I did enjoy the "ENOZ" music. The opening song wasn't bad, and of course, I already have the Hare Hare Yukai song drilled in my head because of Ted. Personally I really enjoyed the artwork in the anime.
Overall, it wasn't too bad. It's not enough to warrant a recommendation, but it was enough to keep me amused for a while.
On that note I guess I can share 2 craptacular attempts I made to sketch Haruhi. They don't look like her at all. These were done in class, so drew her off what I remembered. The first sketch was done after watching 4 episodes or so and the second one was done today in class.
Attempt #1Attempt #2 Suck.
Anyways, that's all I have to say. Reporting out.
