HELLO MY NAME IS EMILY

Okay. Hi.

Ummm so this post is going to be long! Currently I'm in Florence staying in a hotel on the Arno river, which is pretty gangster tbh. We got a random free upgrade from the Westin we were staying in to a St. Regis across the piazza, so we're staying in this super swag room like ydek.

Here you can see my parents' living room. Yes, living room. Their suite (which we were upgraded to for free!!!) has a living area attached to a bathroom, plus two wardrobes, a bedroom and another bathroom. The room my brother and I are in is less swag but still awesome, except our beds are super close together but LMFAO big deal right.

Okay! So we got into Rome around... gosh, 4-ish Italian time? We were staying in the Westin Excelsior on Via Vittorio Veneto, which is about only two blocks away from the Villa Borghese. Since we were totally whacked out from travel, we didn't do too much exploring the first day, just walked around the block a bit to see what was there, got dinner at a pizzeria and then went back to the hotel to sleep like a boss.

The second day was St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican, which was kind of incredible. Sadly, we didn't actually go into the Basilica because the line was like 29834 years long, but we did go to the Museo Vaticano and saw all the beautiful artwork and sculpture and maps and tapestries and things. And we went into the Sistine Chapel. I think that photos make it seem bigger than it really is, but the Creation of Adam painting is actually pretty small, compared to the entire chapel; still, it was incredible to see it up close and personal.

However, I legit cannot stand all the fuckwits who hear all the guards saying, "No photo, no video" and still take photos and videos. I'm not religious, but I was looking around and there were all these nuns, and I was just thinking, how sad it must make them that a place that's so holy for them is something that people turn into a circus? Why can't people just be respectful of the rules? If you want a photo of the ceiling so badly, buy a €.50 postcard or something. JFC X(

Well anyway, I got pretty bad blisters and chafing on my legs that day, so walking wasn't too pleasant the next day when we went to see Santa Maria Maggiore and the Museo Nazionale. Originally we had intended to go to the Colosseum that day but it was absolutely pouring rain, so instead we stayed in until about 10 and then went down to the Museo Nazionale and looked around there. It was pretty awesome! Lots of sculptures and stuff, etc. We also went and saw this church that I forget the name of, but it was built inside what used to be a Roman bath and had a lot of gorgeous artwork.

UMMM then the day after that we went to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill!!! That was probably my favorite part, mostly because I love that kind of historical stuff. Seeing the Colosseum and the place where Rome was quite literally founded (well, at least so the legend goes) was kind of incredible. I've taken like 45893793845 pictures so far LMAO.

The next day, I got sick. :( I was kind of nauseated all night, and then in the morning I felt better except that after breakfast I felt crappy again. My parents and brother went to the Pantheon without me because I just didn't feel up to it, and ate lunch without me too. That afternoon we had a trip to the Villa Borghese to see the museum, so I got up and dressed and walked up with them, but I felt super gross so I didn't go inside. Lucky thing, too, because about halfway back down the walkway to the exit of the park, I had to stop and puke behind a bush. WELP. I thought the worst thing was being sick in a foreign country, but I think actually being sick in public in a foreign country is worse!

Anyway, finally on our last day we went to see the Trevi Fountain and threw coins over our shoulders :) I got a pair of gladiator sandals and then we went to the train station! Where we took a train to Florence, where we are now. Today we went to see Il Duomo but we didn't go in, and now we're here... back at the hotel... lmfao.

Tomorrow idk what we're doing, then Monday we're going (hopefully!!) on a bus tour of Cinque Terre, with a lot of hiking. Tuesday is probably going to be climbing Il Duomo and visiting the Museo Uffizi, and Wednesday we're going to Venice! We wanted to go to the Galleria della'Accademia but unfortunately we can't get tickets :( So no David for me. But whatever lmfao.

UMMMMM and then idk what we're doing in Venice. Fuckyeah.

Also, in sort-of related news, on the train platform before we boarded for Florence, my brother dropped and broke my laptop, fucking up the screen literally beyond even being able to read it. Fortunately we bought a three year warranty when we got it, so it's not unfixable, but I won't have nearly as much internet access now as I did before, considering all I have is my phone and my dad's computer (which I'm on now). But it's okay, really, since it's not like I need to be plugged in all the time when I'm in Italy for chrissakes.

ANYWAY YEP bye ^_____^
