* Explain to patients that the dementia risk score suggests that there is a link between cardiovascular health and dementia.

* Indicate that the dementia risk score is based upon a single point in time and the effects of treatment on the risk score have not been determined.

* This study was published as an abstract and presented orally at a conference. These data and conclusions should be considered to be preliminary as they have not yet been reviewed and published in a peer-reviewed publication.

In order to figure a score:
start with 0
age 47-53: +3
age 54+: +4
education 7-9 yrs: +1? 2?
education 0-6 yrs: +3
sex male: +1
systolic blood pressure 140 mm Hg +: +2
body mass index 30 mg/m2 +: +2
serum cholesterol 6.5 mmol/l (251 mg/dL) +: +2
exercise < 30 min+ at least twice a week: +1

0-5: 1% risk of dementia in the next 20 yars
6-7: 1.9%
8-9: 4.2%
10-11: 7.4%
12-15: 16.4%
