I Need to Stop Doing This

So, I've gotten into a bad habit.

It started out alright. My intentions were good. I wanted to make myself fresh food so I could cut down on the money I spend, get better tasting food, and hopefully eat better.

Problem #1: Unless you're doing something relatively simple, it takes time to prep and cook all of the things that go into a good meal.

Problem #2: I am a food geek, and there's at least one magazine that appeals greatly to this.

Problem #3: I want fresh food and I don't want to sacrifice taste.

Why are these problems? Well, #1 means I spend hours cooking and either don't eat dinner or eat it so late that I'm gassy and my metabolism probably shut down.

#2 means that I find wonderful recipes that I'm fairly confident that I'll like, but quite a few that I've tried lately seem to have simple carb bases, such as rice, potatoes, or pasta.

#3 means that I hate frozen meals, don't like to give up things like butter and cheese (or replace them with lower-fat alternatives since those "alternatives" often taste like crap), and that I continually run into #1.

I could go to a restaurant, but usually portions are large on the bad stuff (like rice, pasta, etc) and small on the good stuff (like veggies). Also, I'm not the greatest on my own portion control. Of course, there is also the money issue.

Since I am making my own stuff and it isn't that healthy, I'm really not cutting any calories right now, which isn't helping out with losing weight at all.

So, I need to figure out something better. I need fast, simple, fresh food with lots of taste, but not so big on the calories. =/
