"Mr. Self Destruct" is the first track off 1994's The Downward Spiral. The short NinWiki concept and interpretations section about this album is particularly worth reading. The album intentionally explores a range of musical styles.

The middle of the song is very quiet. Trent has stated in at least one interview that sometimes if he is embarrassed about a lyric, he will make it nearly inaudible. The rest of the song deals with sex, religion, and violence, but I would not have known these lyrics referencing drug use were there:
I am the needle in your vein
I am the high you can't sustain
I am the pusher I'm a whore
I am the need you have for more

Live in Toronto 1994. Pre-show shot includes David Bowie's "Warsawa," from his Low album that was highly influential on TDS. "Warsawa" also inspired the name of the band Warsaw, though they later changed it to Joy Division. Intro to "Mr. Self Destruct" is an elongated "Pinion."
