Why (and how) we’re changing commenting on independent.co.uk
Probably the best thing for both sides--while LJ had a difficult time keeping up with the Independent's needs, I also know that Independent users were good at gumming up Support with awkward requests. Taking development in-house means they gain control of their platform and are able to deliver relevant features to themselves. It's also worth noting that LiveJournal itself was an improvement over the previous TypePad implementation, according to this post.
