Quick Update

Visit from my Mother-In-Law

Last week, Josh's mother came to town to visit for a few days.  She had spent several days on an island off the coast of North Carolina with her sister, her niece and her husband's extended family.  We'd been invited, but it was the Legacies weekend, so we couldn't go on the little family vacation.  They'd rented a beach house and were spending a week there, but we couldn't go, which was sort of lame.  I rather like Josh's cousin and her family (her husband's a bio nerd too!), and I adore Josh's aunt, so it would have been nice to visit.  Anyway, Josh's mother didn't stay for the full week.  Instead, she only stayed at the beach house for about half of it, then flew out to Memphis to visit us.  She arrived on Wednesday and Josh and I had work for the rest of the week, so she spent her days sight-seeing with Maddisyn playing tour guide.  They ended up visiting Graceland together.  *shudder*  She seemed to have fun with that, though.  I think she enjoys playing step-grandma.  We took her to Cracker Barrel while she was here (which is good eating, in general) and we also took her to what is regarded as the best barbeque restaurant in Memphis (which was pretty amazing).  Friday, Josh's mother had paid to take herself, Josh, Maddisyn and me on a riverboat ride that served a barbeque dinner (she hadn't known Michael had stayed for the summer when she bought the tickets a few months ago, so he babysat the dogs that night).  It was fun, with live music playing a range of rock, soul and blues.  I enjoyed myself and Maddisyn rocked out pretty good.  Saturday morning we woke up really early to have breakfast with Josh's mom at The Waffle House before she headed to the airport to fly back to California.  All in all, it was a pretty good and non-stressful visit, which was a pleasant surprise.

Dark Knight

Last weekend, Josh and I caught the new Batman movie, which we enjoyed a lot.  I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but I will say that it was highly entertaining, and the brief cameos of Cillian Murphay was good too (I loved him in Batman Begins).  Of course, the best part was having a night alone with my wonderful and sexy husband who I adore more than the world.  Having that opportunity is way better than any movie could be (and it was a damn good movie).

School

This last week was mid-terms for my students, so I had Review Sessions and a mid-term to give.  The mid-term was an actual, honest-to-goodness lab practical, which was kind of cool since I've never given a practical before.  Now that the mid-term is done, we're finally getting away from plant crap and moving onto animal stuff (yay!).  Today my students dissected frogs and a sheep's eye, which was fun.  However, I think I'm spent on teaching this class (I'm just not feeling it as much as my previous classes I've taught).  So, I'm ready for the term to be over.  Fortunately, next week in the last week of labs, and the week after they will have their final exam (also a practical), so at least I'm almost finished with it.

Anyway, there's some other stuff I wanted to update on, but I'll save it for later.  I hope everyone is doing well.  Missing you great big bunches!

Well, take care and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Big Love!
