I'm feeling that beta-ing feeling…
So, I've not used Live Journal for years, but I've decided I'd kind of like to get back into beta'ing fics, specifically in the Merlin fandom if I can as I used to enjoy it in different fandoms. So I thought it best to set up a base!
How it goes I guess is a mystery but we'll see!!
I've not Merlin Fandom Beta'd before, but I have in other fandoms and thought I'd start back up if anyone was interested, and as my interests now lay in Merlin I thought it only logical to start here!
So for now, if you need a beta and you're in the Merlin Fandom drop me a comment/message and I'll see what I can do! I'll put a guide to what I will/won't do below :)
Pairings I will do: Just about any combination of the characters of Arthur, Merlin, Gwaine, Percy, Leon, Bradley, Colin, eoin, tom. I'm only really comfortable with straight pairings (ie Arthur/gwen) if they are non-sexual and come as a secondary pairing or a historical pairing. If I haven't mentioned a pairing here or in will not drop me a line& I'll let you know!
Pairings I won't do: Arthur/Uther, Merlin/Gaius, basically any pairing with Uther or Gaius or Antony or Richard. Fem!slash, I don't have anything against it I just don't get enjoyment from reading it. I don't mind a secondary pairing being fem!slash as long as there is no sexual content between them.
Ratings I'll do: just about all really, I feel more comfortable with teen+, NC-17, Mature, Explicit, but I'm happy enough to take on any rating.
Kinks I will do: Anything not mentioned below in what I won't do really, but if you're unsure ask, it isn't an exhaustive list!
Kinks I won't do: Extreme underage (for sexual content I class this as younger than 15), Non-con for pleasure circumstances instead of as an unavoidable plot point, incest, beastiality (but I dont class Omegaverse or supernatural creatures as this), necrophilia (I dont class vampires as 'dead' though, I mean real necrophilia), 'watersports' or fecal matter, MPreg (except in certain circumstances in OmegaVerse), Cross dressing, blatant extreme humiliation in public for sexual purposes, genderbending.
Universes I do: I tend to lean towards modern au, but will try most universes including modern au, canon, canon au, supernatural(ie vampires werewolves etc), high school au, university/college au, OmegaVerse. Crossovers are fine if I know the other fandom, if not but I can get the jist of it or you're ok with me maybe pointing out things that may be a trope in fandom that's fine by me! If you're not sure ask! :)
What I can offer: Spelling and grammar, coherency, story pacing, characterisation, plot holes, brit picking
I've been told in the past that I'm a fair beta, I do nit-pick but only so as things like typos/characterisation don't spoil the finished article. I will ask questions on things if I am not sure something works or am not sure what you are meaning by something. I don't really do rhetorical questions, if I ask something then I genuinely want to know what your thought process was behind it to help me decide as to whether I think it works or not. I will try to be devils advocate if I think its needed. I try to be fair and kind, if something I say could be taken two ways, chances are I meant it the nicest way as because I've written myself in the past I understand that our fics are our babies and we can get very defensive of them.
If I think of anything else I'll add it later, if you're unsure just ask! :)
