Don't get me wrong, my highschool was horrible. Me, a kid who read Dickens for fun and wrote ten page letters to friends got D's in English -- because they taught the most boring and regressive crap.

Our girl's softball coach, drama coach and history teacher was sleeping with my senior class president... And her sister. He had affairs with students, married two of them, over the course of about fifteen years. It was completely tolerated.

The Klan functioned as an off campus after school club. My friends and I were ridiculed for parting our hair on the side insted of down the middle.

One of my friends had to drop out to help support his mom, another had an alcoholic father, another had just all kinds of madness in his homelife, another wasn't allowed out of the house because the world was full of "sinners" and I had a fair parcel of strife with my own folks.

But, it was easy to feel so much cooler than all the Motley Crue fans, a few teachers loved us because we were functionaly literate, and we were all clever enough to see the larger picture. So, we had fun. Maybe we had more fun because of all the bad things. It was a willful desire to hold onto our childhood.

Blah. Blah. Blah.
