But Kia often corrected him to point out that the first "alive" really meant "animated". Why did they never use the supply of protoblood in 790s head that was intended to keep his brain bit alive for 500 years?

I found the answer... this was clarified later when Kia pointed out that it was "similar to protoblood". Oh well...
