A more relevant understanding of the matrix suddenly struck me earlier. This may not be very original, but it hadn't occurred to me before

I believe that there is an underlying truth. I don't believe in complete relativism.
But the meaning we bring to it is our own. There are as many meanings as there are people. That doesn't mean they are all created equal though, and it doesn't mean that people aren't in some cases being duped. I think there are *some* things that people either do or don't understand, and that just because they think they understand that doesn't mean that they do. I don't think of myself as immune to that either though, it applies equally to me. I'm just curious to find out.
The fact that i've given four possible meanings for the matrix in that post ought i'd've thought to indicate that I don't believe there is just one meaning.
That life might be about consumerism for some people would make sense if those people found it lead to happiness. From what I can see, it doesn't ultimately - but some people falsely think it does, therefore they have not found the true meaning *for them*. They are praying to a false god. If it does indeed bring them happiness and complete fulfilment at the end of their life, then maybe that *was* their meaning - but those are not the ppl I was referring to - and I'm somewhat doubtful that they exist at all. Others - which is what I was really talking about - don't believe that it will, but are trapped in that path anyway, not seeing it for what it is. Life may have many meanings, but where people are blind to them, that is not the truth - *the* truth, their truth, or anyone's truth.
