Maybe I'll make this a regular feature - 'Scrabble words' that I come across in reading. I read July's People today, and like many African novels, it's chockful of Collins goodness:
"Across the seasons was laid the diuturnal one of being without a man..." - DIUTURNAL# means long-lasting, which is not particular to Africa, unlike:
"They will have held the kgotla under those jakkalsbessie trees." - KGOTLA# is a Botswanan tribal assembly, and you can also spell it LEKGOTLA#. Sadly, jakkalsbessie is phony even in Collins.
The ownership of Bamford's BAKKIE# (a type of truck) is also important to the plot.
