Pigs in lipstick: an essay on entertainment via the media

Sep 10, 2008 16:25

Hi there. I don't usually get all political in this journal. Hell, I don't usually POST in this journal.

I have watched for roughly forty-two hours as Obama's pigs in lipstick comment has been scrutinized, rescrutinized, compared to John McCain's two pigs-in-lipstick comments, compared to Mike Huckabee's pigs-in-lipstick comment, and ruminated upon. Frankly, I'm sick of it.

A pig in lipstick is still a pig, and I'm really annoyed at the lipstick the media is slathering on this one. It's not a scandal, it's a goddamn pig. Just a pig. Not sexist, classist, racist, anyist. Pigist perhaps, but that's it.

I think that it's an innocent comment that has been taken out of context and warped by the media and the opposing campaign. I'm by no means a hardcore liberal, but this is kind of ridiculous. Why should Obama apologize for using a phrase that McCain himself has used in reference to Hilary's healthcare plan?

Right. Sarah Palin has revolutionized the idea of lipstick for feminists everywhere by comparing herself to a pit bull. I forgot. Silly me. As a feminist, I kind of resent the idea of lipstick in general.

As a woman, I find Sarah Palin pretty repugnant. She's against my right to choose, my right to equal pay, my rights in general. She's a naughty librarian version of Dick Cheney with fluffy hair and firmer tits who can read Karl Rove's speeches real good.

This "scandal" is pure media frenzy. That's it. Get the hell over it and show me the f'n news.

Thank you and good night.
