Portland, OR and people of color
So I want to move to portland. Anyone who knows me knows that this is my goal, but where are the people of color? I really don't want to live my life as the token black in a lily white landscape. I know that the west coast in general tends to have a large asian populace which I am extremely grateful for, but I like living in places with lots (LOTS) of diversity. A proverbial rainbow of colors if you will, but Portland does not sound like the colorful haven of my dreams. Most people tell me that maybe NYC is the place for me. I disagree strongly with this statement. The problem with NYC is that it is overcrowded and expensive. I want to live in a city where I can live alone if I want to. You can't afford to live alone in NYC, or if you can you must be pulling in a six figure salary. So NYC does have the culture I want but not the environment.
