I’ll start with the bad news first: the ebook edition of The Empress of Earth is going to be delayed until October, and it’s my fault. However, this is not entirely bad news….
As I was proofing the file for Crossroad, I couldn’t help remembering just how frustrated I’d been when I was working on the third book. I was on a tight deadline for Baen, and I couldn’t make the middle third work quite the way I wanted it to, and - I powered through it, but I still wasn’t happy with a couple of sections when I turned it in. If I’d had more experience, I would have called Betsy Mitchell, who was then the head editor at Baen, and told her I needed a few more weeks beyond the official deadline. They would almost certainly have given me the time, and I could have fixed the problems then. I wouldn’t be sitting here feeling frustrated because I could see a much better way to do those scenes….
Oh.
To make a long story short, the ebook is going to be a revised edition. I’m going to rewrite a couple of chapters to fix those things that were nagging at me, and hopefully tighten up the story. In fact, I’m going back to the storyline that I’d originally planned, which I changed because I couldn’t see how to do one small thing, and I think it’s going to be better for it.
I do apologize for the delay, though!
