Review: Fredrick Brown

Catching up, I hope. This author is another oldie but goodie, with some rather biting humor, typically  in the science fiction genre.

Fredrick Brown wrote one novel that I know of, Martians Go Home!, which had quite a bot of success in its day. It starts when a science fiction writer, seeking his muse in booze and solitude, is visited by a martian. Small, green, incredibly obnoxious, and intangible when struck. Not content with making the life of a single hack miserable, more martians appear worldwide, inflicting massive annoyance and embarrassment to as much of humanity as they can reach - and they can reach everywhere. A fun tale, all in all. The appearance of short, greenish characters in movies afterwards must be a coincidence, I'm sure...

He also produced a large number of short stories, from a few pages to a dozen or so, with a science fiction / supernatural theme and inventive twists at the end. One collection of such is Nightmares and Geezenstacks, and there are others as well. Worth reading, and a number of very enjoyable pieces - odd conundrums, normal situations gone mad, and other interesting scenarios.
