A Bunch of Useless Rambling About Goings-On

Sep 03, 2009 08:53

Uhh wow so yesterday was pretty fun!

My coworker Pete and his band, the Imaginary Friends, made it to the finals in a battle of the bands thing they're having at Corner Bar (which is one of the coolest bars on Northgate; it has 3 stories and a bar on the roof!)...Pete and his band are pretty much amazing, a whole lot of talent. When Shelly and I got there, we immediately spotted a table with a bunch of my other coworkers and so we wandered over there and chatted with them. My boss even bought us a round of drinks haha! Score.

The Imaginary Friends were the first set, and so at 10 they started playing and their set went for about 30 minutes as I recall. It was all very, very good, mostly original stuff and a well-done Beatles cover at the end.

Shelly and I discovered an app for the iPhone where, if you shake it, it gives you a random shot to take. Amazing technology y/y?

Well, we were standing up by the bar and I was looking at the bartender. In my mind I started thinking she looked pretty familiar. As a random shot in the dark, I told Shelly to ask her if her name was Kristen. I wasn't really expecting the answer to be yes, so I was kinda shocked when Shelly turned back around to me and was like "It is!" I went up to the bar and said, "Did you used to work at the Horticulture Building?" and she just looked kinda confused and said "Yeeesss...?" And I was like "Omg I know you, I used to work with you! I worked in Dr. Miller's lab." She just looked further confused and was like "With me? What's your name?" And I told her and her eyes got big and she was like you look totally different! (I totally get this though, as I have short hair, a tan, good teeth now, and Im a little thinner lolz. A lot of people that see old photos of me are like THATS YOU??) It was a funny moment. Small world! So my old coworker was our bartender for the night. Ha ha.

We just spent the rest of the evening with some of my coworkers chatting it up and playing with the shot app haha, and listening to the other bands for the battle of the bands thing (this was all happening on the roof btw). I'm prejudiced, but I think Pete's band was the best. One band did a cover of Benny and the Jets though, so that was fun. :p It was probably a sight; me, my gray haired boss in a work polo shirt, and one of my coworkers with a big red goatee sitting at a table to the side singing along B-B-B-Benny and the jetssssss! I really like getting to talk to my coworkers outside of work, it's really interesting. I think total there were probably ten people from the office there.

The fall tennis class at Pebble Creek started up on Tuesday, and I rooked one of my coworkers into going (plus there were a few familiar faces there from the last class) so it was even more fun having people there to talk to. I'm slooowly improving. It's hard cos I have had to basically relearn my game, as I was never taught the proper way to do things even though I played in high school. I think I'm finally starting to do the proper techniques automatically. The big thing about tennis is just getting yourself consistent. I'm working hard to get there. :p Meanwhile I need to find MOAR TIME during the week to hit the courts.

Still doing the morning workout thing. Also bike-riding a fair bit these days.

The wedding is in NINE DAYS omg. .__. I'm nervous haha. I -think- I have all the big stuff out of the way. My dress is being altered right now, so I can pick that up on Saturday, God-willing. Hopefully they didn't lose and/or screw it up :| They've been in business for a long time though and are reputable, so I don't think they'd do that. It's positively INSANE how much planning and money I have put into a ceremony that's gonna be, what, an hour? I'm hoping the ceremony is beautiful and goes off without a hitch, no pun intended, but now I see why people hire wedding planners. Some of the planning was a big ball of suck. Oh yeah and orthodontist says I can't have my braces off before. :[ bummer, it's depressing. I'm glad I have the clear brackets or whatever though, it makes it less noticeable. I wanted bridal portraits though. Oh well. *gripe gripe* I can has plane to hawaii now plzthx?

Breckin's getting a root canal right now. :[ Poor guy! I hope he's doing all right. I wanted to take him to/from the appointment but he said he could do it himself. I wish I could stay home and take care of him. :p

WHAT ELSE idk I can't think of much else I feel like talking about. Haven't drawn in weeks. Got no motivation or inspiration. I think the urge will come back after the wedding/honeymoon, cause then I won't have that to stress over. I'LL HAVE OTHER STUFF INSTEAD har har. No really though, I miss arting.

tl;dr: I went to corner bar with shelly to watch a coworker's band play, recognized the bartender from previous job, tennis, wedding bla, breckin's getting a root canal today :c, I haven't drawn anything in ages

nightlife, tennis, wedding, life, music
