WHEN DID YOU START DRAWING?
Before I started school, so maybe age 3 or 4 or so. The first thing I remember drawing was a Ninja Turtle, with the guidance of my sister.
WHICH HAND DO YOU USE FOR DRAWING?
Right.
WHICH IS EASIER TO DRAW - MALE OR FEMALE?
Male, I have trouble with the female jawline sometimes. I am getting much better though.
WHICH IS EASIER TO DRAW - LONG HAIR OR SHORT HAIR?
I'd say short, just because my characters tend to have shorter hair and I don't have to worry as much about the flowing nature of long hair.
IS IT EASIER TO DRAW THE HEAD FACING TOWARDS THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT?
It's the same either way for me now. Several years ago I noticed I would draw everything facing the left, and since then have made a conscious effort to even it out (and it's worked!).
IS IT EASIER TO DRAW THE SIDE VIEW OF THE FACE OR THE FRONT VIEW?
I am guilty of drawing lots of things from a 3/4 view by default. I think I'd say a front view is a little easier than a profile view though.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE PROBLEMS IN DRAWING?
Cities/buildings with tons of windows/architecture, cars, children, feet
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DRAW?
Faces, humans, animals, anthros, gryphons
ARE YOU A TRADITIONAL ARTIST OR A DIGITAL ARTIST?
Digital. I occasionally enjoy traditional art but I've moved almost exclusively digital.
WHERE DO YOU START DRAWING FROM?
Lately, I do a rough sketch with a large brush set on stylus opacity, then I refine it into lineart.
WHAT IS YOUR DRAWING HABIT THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF?
I flip the canvas a lot, keep one hand on the keyboard and one hand on the tablet. I'm like anti-ADD when I art, get really single-minded and lose track of time.
ANY TIPS FOR COLORING/SHADING?
Don't shade with black, don't highlight with white. Shadows are more exciting if they are not just a darker value but a different hue than the local color! Same for light.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FINISH A PIECE OF ART?
A typical full finished picture takes around six hours. An icon takes around one.
WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILE YOU DRAW?
Di.FM Electronica (Trance, Chillout Dreams) are recent favorites. Soundtracks, blues, classic rock, classical, and rap are also commonly used. Often times I'll just put my main playlist on shuffle.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO COME UP WITH AN IDEA?
Usually they aren't so much sought as suddenly contracted.
YOUR FAVORITE DRAWING UTENSILS?
Intuos 3 or 4, Photoshop for digital. Acrylics for traditional.
YOUR FAVORITE COLOR/THE COLOR THAT YOU USE A LOT?
I think I use a lot of blues and purples and darker colors. I feel like I avoid green, I'm trying to stop that.
YOUR FAVORITE STYLE(S)?
Matt Rhodes, Aysha Shehim, Tessa & Sarah Stone, Craig Mullins
ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR CURRENT ART?
Satisfaction == stagnation! I will never be satisfied, and I'm okay with that. :)
WHAT KIND OF ARTIST ARE YOU AIMING FOR?
I want to be good at it and I want to be fast, but most of all I want to make myself happy with my art. Any career or job that may come from it is secondary. I think (just like most things in life) when you're getting happy with what you're producing, the rest follows.
