Ch.10

Chaos ensued as Miranda stormed into the hospital a short time later, scaring the hell out of the staff and the members of the press who were still under the impression that she was missing. Miranda just rolled her eyes. Once again they had underestimated her. You would have thought they would have learned by now.

Miranda stormed up to the nurse’s desk and began to demand knowing what room one Andrea Sachs was in. Miranda was on the verge of tossing the incompetent nurse across the room when Nigel came to her rescue. “Miranda, thank PRADA you’re alright we have all been incredibly worried, especially six, and your children, and on top of that the entire RUNWAY staff is currently in shambles over the so called “loss of our illustrious leader.” Nigel said and Miranda smiled, a real smile, at Nigel, happy to see her long time friend hadn’t lost his touch for saving the day, “It’s alright, she is with us.” Nigel said and the nurse nodded her head numbly, knowing better than to say anything else to the silver haired woman in front of her. Nigel motioned for Miranda to follow her and Miranda did so readily, for once following someone else’s lead.

“Now Miranda, I warn you, Six’s parent’s are here and they were none too happy to receive news of the sudden relationship between you and their daughter. However, they tabled the discussion with her not wishing to upset her further. I fear though, that Angela Sachs will unleash her fury on you the minute you two are alone.” Nigel said and Miranda nodded her head. “I will deal with that when the time comes, right now I just want to see Andrea” Miranda said and Nigel nodded his head knowingly as he led her to Andy’s room. As they approached Andy’s room the two officers stationed there dropped their coffee and their jaws in surprise. Just as one began to open their mouth Miranda cut them off. “I understand that this matter is of the utmost importance to you, however right now what’s most important to me is seeing Andrea, once I have I will give you my statement, including the tale of my escape and where you can find one Susan Orlean.” The officers both nodded and turned away.

Nigel knocked on the door and heard a faint “come in” Miranda stayed just out of view as Nigel entered and found Angela and Richard Sachs seated to one side of their daughter. “Six there is someone here to see you.” Nigel said softly and Andy looked at him in confusion but quietly said “Okay” Nigel stepped to the side and as soon as Miranda entered the room Andy began to weep. “Miranda they found you! Oh thank God I thought I had lost you!” Andy cried and Miranda rushed forward, faintly acknowledging the scowl on Angela, and Richard’s faces.

Miranda wrapped Andy in her arms as gently as possible as she leant over the bed to give her love a kiss, not giving a flying fuck that they had an audience present. Miranda pulled back after a short while and looked at her Andrea. She was pale, and clearly in pain. “Andrea, I’m so sorry. It’s entirely my fault.” Miranda said gently and Nigel quietly slipped out of the room. Even though he knew Angela and Richard would not give them the same courtesy. “Miranda it’s not your fault. How could you possibly think this is your fault? Andy said and gently stroked Miranda’s cheek. “She wanted me, why I don’t know, but she did. If I hadn’t rejected her you wouldn’t be here right now you would be safe.” Miranda said quietly. “I would have been extremely upset, knowing that you had chosen her, and you would have been unhappy. She wanted you, and probably still wants you because you are a beautiful and amazing woman.” Andy said and Miranda smiled. “How did you get away?” Andy asked suddenly curious. “I will tell you later after you have gotten some rest darling. I need to talk to the police, for now, try and sleep I promise to tell you everything very soon.” Miranda said and kissed Andy’s forehead.

Miranda silently left the room, only to realize she had been followed by her Andrea’s mother. “Ms. Priestly I would like to speak to you alone.” Angela growled and Miranda nodded and followed Mrs. Sachs to a private, empty waiting room. Angela shut the door behind her and wasted no time in beginning to lash out at Miranda. “How dare you come in here, how dare you pretend to care about my daughter. I’ve read all about you and your past relationships! My daughter is nothing but a plaything to you, and you will simply discard her like a pair of last season’s shoes once you are tired of her. You were right; it is your fault that MY daughter lies in that bed. She should have begun to start building strength back up but she hasn’t been able to because she has been worried about the likes of you! She is almost half your age, and beautiful as you might be you are a heartless bitch who wouldn’t know love if cupid’s arrow came up and shot you in the ass!” Angela paused for breath and Miranda cringed, not only at her words, but at her cheesy metaphors. “You have no business being anywhere near my daughter, and your relationship with her ends now. I don’t care what you tell her, but I will not allow you to be anywhere near her when in the end you will only cause her more heartache. You are nothing but well dressed, white trash.” Angela finished and Miranda fumed

“Angela, one thing that you should know about me is that I frankly don’t give a damn what anybody writes or says about me. Call me trash if you won’t. Anyone who knows me knows that I started that way and worked my way up. I’ve certainly heard worse. However, what I do care about is people who make accusations about how I feel about another person, and their feelings for me. I never explain myself or give any kind reason for my actions normally so you had better drag your feeble mind from the gutter and open up your ears and listen to me. I do care about Andrea, no one knows me better than she does. She has been there for me when nobody else has. I did not intend to fall in love with her and she certainly did not intend to fall in love with me. You have no right to make assumptions about how I feel about a person when you don’t know me from Adam. Now, to call me trash and to say that your daughter does not know her feelings for me insinuates two different things” Miranda said in a low tone and glared at Angela.

“One is that you believe you daughter gullible, which I have ruled out as I am sure you know just how strong willed, and minded she is. Which leads me to conclusion number two, and that is that you obviously must believe your daughter’s integrity, brain, trust in people, and all round taste in people to be lacking. You compare me to trash which says you are aware that your daughter is attracted to low class good for nothings who have never worked an honest day in their entire life. I have to tell you that disappoints me greatly. You do not believe in your daughter enough to allow her to be the strong woman that she is and make the choices that she believes are right for her. I will never toss Andrea aside like a pair of last season’s shoes. However, if one day she realizes I am not what she wants she will be free to leave me with no strings attached. I love her enough to let her go if she so chooses to. That’s all” Miranda said and exited the waiting room leaving Angela pale and furious.

Miranda gave her statement to the police and told them how she got away and gave directions to where she had left Susan. Once that was done Nigel once again approached her, only this time with Starbucks. Miranda looked at him and gratefully accepted the cup. “six is still out, why don’t you go home, get showered and get some rest. The twins want to see you, their father will be bringing them over when you have gotten cleaned up. Then you can come back here and relay your tale of heroism to Six.” Nigel said and Miranda smiled faintly, she hated to leave but the thought of a shower and reassuring her daughters’ was too strong of a pull to ignore. “Thank you Nigel.” Miranda said and Nigel turned to her. “Roy is waiting outside for you. Oh, and I happened by the private waiting room in search of you earlier and caught a bit of your conversation with Angela, I wasn’t eaves dropping but the tone of voice you were using was hard to miss, and all I have to say is meeeeooooowww darling.” Miranda rolled her eyes but the corners of her mouth twitched up. “I’ll be back later Nigel. Have Emily bring the book here for me to review later.” Miranda said as she walked away towards the elevator. Nigel smiled as he watched her go and grinned. Things were looking up……..TBC
