part 1
Miranda Priestly walked up the steps to the townhouse with her date beside her. “I had a great time tonight Miranda and I would love to do this again sometime soon.” Miranda turned to the man after unlocking her door. “Yes Jonathan, I agree, soon.” Miranda replied and he leaned in and kissed her mouth. Four floors up a curtain could be seen falling back into place as Cassidy and Caroline moved away from the window.
“How long do you think this one’s going to last?” Cassidy asked Caroline. “I don’t know, he’s handsome, and mom let him kiss her out in the open like that so, I don’t know I say two months. “ Caroline replied and Cassidy grinned. “No way, a month and a half if that, he looks like he will be clingy after awhile and we both know mom hates that.” Cassidy grinned. “So what do I get if I win?” “I’’ do your math homework for a month, and if I win you do my English.” Caroline said. Cassidy was just about to agree when they heard a soft voice they knew all too well. “Just what is it you young ladies are betting your homework on?” Miranda asked as she crossed the room and kissed each twin on the head. Both twins were silent. “I want an answer from one of you.” Miranda said. “We were betting on how long your latest boyfriend will last.” Cassidy mumbled. Miranda raised her eyebrow at both twins and glared. She watched as her daughters started to shrink back and then a smile started to play at the corner of Miranda’s mouth. She knew all too well that the men she had been dating within the last year hadn’t lasted long, after Stephen she was being extra careful, not wanting to bring another father figure into her girls lives and have it end disastrously again. Jonathan happened to be boyfriend number four. The twins saw the smile at the corner of their mother’s mouth and they smiled instantly. “My darlings you two are very perceptive, I’m already having doubts about this man. So I want to know how long.” “How long?” the twins echoed in unison. “Yes, how long are you two betting on us dating?” Miranda asked. “The twins got a knowing look in their eye and instantly decided at the same time just how long they thought this would last. Miranda saw the look and knew that her daughters had given up on their bet and were about to challenge her. “A month and a half or less.” They said in unison. Miranda quirked her eyebrow. “How long were you thinking you would be with him mom?’ Caroline asked with an innocent look on her face, a way too innocent look. Miranda sighed, realizing the trap she had set for herself the minute she walked into the room, and decided to go ahead and seal her fate and get it over with. “I was thinking around two months.” Miranda said honestly. The twins grinned and nodded at each other. “So are you willing to make it a bet?” Cassidy asked. Miranda gazed into the eyes of her babies and smiled. “I suppose so, if I win you two will no longer send a picture of me into page six when you’re angry with me.” Miranda said and raised her eyebrow. “Fine, and if we win you will take us on a proper vacation! We get out for summer break in three weeks, and we get to decide where we’re going.” Cassidy said. “Agreed, now you two better go and get ready for bed, I will come and tuck you in shortly.” Miranda said and kissed each girl as they ran out of the room.
Miranda smirked. “Well that wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, knowing the girls they will want to go to Hawaii or the Bahamas or somewhere similar.” Miranda said to Patricia as her big loveable dog came over to her.
4 weeks later
The twins came running into Miranda’s room to wake her. “Mom! We’ve decided where we want to go on vacation!” Caroline yelled. Miranda sat up in bed and glared at her daughters. “Couldn’t this have waited until mommy has slept a little longer?” Miranda asked. “No! We got up early because we couldn’t sleep and we got on our laptops and it’s all over the internet already mom, you broke up with Jonathan last night.” Cassidy announced. Miranda rolled her eyes. “Word travels fast, yes my darlings I broke up with him last night, you two were asleep when I came in and I was going to tell you this morning.” Miranda said. The twins climbed under the covers with their mother and hugged her. “We really are sorry you know mom, we want you to find someone who makes you happy.” Caroline said. “Thank you Bobbsies.” Miranda said and kissed their heads. “What happened?” Cassidy asked. “Well I was beginning to think that neither one of us would win the bet because I actually really did like him. But these last few times we’ve been out he decided to open up more about his life and his secret passion to me.” Miranda said and smirked. “His passion my darlings is cars, and last night was the last straw, I was at least going to hang in there long enough for me to be on the winning end of our little bet but I just couldn’t do it!” Miranda said and cringed. “That bad?” Caroline asked. “yes Caroline it was, he sat through the whole dinner, telling me the proper way to change the oil in a car.” Both twins started howling with laughter. Miranda joined in as well. “As you can probably guess your mommy is not one for changing the oil in her own car.” Miranda smirked and laughed some more. “The end of our evening finally did me in when we got back to his brand new car that he had bought last week. My darlings he had named the Mustang Randa.” Upon hearing this, the twins doubled over in laughter.
“Please tell me mom that he wasn’t trying to name a car after you!” Caroline giggled. Miranda smiled at her daughter. “That’s exactly what he tried to do. He also insisted I take my shoes off while in the car. He paid way more attention to it than he did to me, so I told him things were simply not working out and left it at that.” Miranda’s alarm clock went off, and she hit the button to disable it. “It’s time for Mommy to go to work, I believe this is your first official week of summer, so I suggest you girls make plans with some of your friends today to celebrate, just make sure Cara knows about it.” Miranda said. “Yes Mom!” they said in unison. Miranda got up out of bed and then turned to her daughters. “Oh, I believe you two wanted to tell me where you guys picked to go on vacation?” Miranda asked. “Oh yea! Well we don’t want you to worry with it right now mom, so we will call Emily today and have her see when you have a slow week, and we can have her go ahead and make the arrangements and you won’t have to deal with it!” Cassidy said. “When did you two get to be so grown up? Miranda asked her twelve year olds.” “I’m not certain but I think we came that way.” Caroline said. Miranda smiled and rolled her eyes. The twins ran out of her room and she began getting ready for the day.
The twins sat in Caroline’s room and phoned Emily. “Emily what week in the foreseeable future does our mother have a light work load?” Caroline asked. They heard Emily checking her computer and then “Well your mother appears to have a pretty light work load in two weeks. June 5-12th is pretty empty as far as appointments go.” Emily said. “Good, we are under instructions from our mom to tell you to cancel anything that might be there and to keep it completely open. We are going to send you some information to your email and we want you to make the travel arrangements for this, our mom has approved and said we could do this, it’s for our family vacation, we want everything on the list done by that time.” Cassidy said. “Alright.” Emily said and the twins hung up the phone and then high fived each other. Cassidy moved over to her computer and hit send. “I can’t believe we pulled this off!” Cassidy said. “Yea, Mom is going to be so mad, knowing her she thinks we are going somewhere like Hawaii or the Bahamas. She’s going to totally flip when she finds out we are taking a white water river rafting trip.” Caroline said. Cassidy got her laptop and opened a webpage to Google. “What are you doing? “ Caroline asked. “I’m googling our tour guide. “ Cassidy replied and Caroline moved to join her.
“Listen to this Caro, Gail is called White Water by many of the local Indians for her ability to run the rapids better than anyone else around the area. After the age of 20 she quite being a guide and went to college, and became a history teacher at a school for the deaf. She later married Tom Hartman and had two children with him. In 2007 she returned to the river to take her son on a trip for his birthday, along the way her, her husband and her son were kidnapped by two men who had robbed a cattle auction and were using the river as their escape route. They threatened Gail’s family in order to get her to take them down the gauntlet. A five plus rapid that is considered to be unrunable and was rafting down it was made illegal back in 1996. Gail had run the Gauntlet before when she was 18 and was able to do it again for the sake of their family. In the end Gail was able to shoot and kill one of the men that had taken them hostage and broke the other one’s arm. In 2009 Gail and her husband divorced and she gave up her teaching job and moved back to be a guide on the river once again.” Cassidy read. “Wow! That’s amazing!” Caroline said. “That’s what I was thinking.” Cassidy scrolled down the page and came upon her picture. “She’s really pretty!” Caroline said. “I agree, she is nice and tanned, she’s very toned, and she has really pretty blonde hair. This page says she’s now 45 years old.” Cassidy said. “Cool, she’s only 5 years younger than mom is!” Caroline said. “I can’t wait to go on this trip! I just hope mom doesn’t get too mad, and speaking of which Caro, you know that to effectively pull this off we are going to need Nigel’s help.” Cassidy said and Caroline nodded in agreement. Nigel was the only person they could trust to pack the right clothes for their mother and see to it that she remained unaware of their actual destination.
Part 2 will be up either tomorrow or later today!
