Meryl and Pierce arrived at the charity even at 5:30, it was to get kicked off at 6. They walked through the doors hand in hand, ignoring all the flashing cameras. A lot of different people had shown up for the even and they immediately spotted Jack Nicholson. Jack approached them and kissed Meryl on the hand in greeting. “Long time no see.” he said “Yeah, I know it’s been awhile.” Meryl replied. Pierce had never worked with Jack but they knew each other from different events and award shows. “I hope my favorite bond is taking care of my favorite actress!” Hack said “I think I’m taking pretty good care of her.” Pierce said. “Yes he is doing a fabulous job taking care of myself and Heather.” Meryl added smiling. “Good, I’m ever happy to hear that! And I’m sorry I haven’t gotten to congratulate you on your engagement or having a healthy baby girl until now.” “Thank you very much.” Meryl and Pierce said. “Meryl I want you to know that I wasn’t surprised when I heard the news of your pregnancy.” Jack said grinning. “Really why not?” Meryl asked intrigued. “Well sweetheart it’s like I said at your AFI award ceremony, you’ve always defied the odds, and overcome standards that your not supposed to be able to, you can do anything so when your pregnancy was announced I was like I told you she could do anything! Because seriously sweetheart if I would have placed a bet over what actress would have a baby at this point in our lives it would have been you.” Meryl started laughing. “That sounds exactly like something you would say Jack. The announcement was made that it was time to get everything kicked off, they walked into a big room with tables everywhere, and they all sat down as their dinner was served. Mamie found them and came and sat beside them with her new boyfriend. Everyone ate rather quickly and the announcer got up at 6:30 to get things rolling. “Hello everyone and welcome to this year’s Cancer event.” he said. “For this event as you all should know if you are in this room you might end up having to come up here and perform some sort of act, requests have been processed, an we are going to go with the ones that pay the most money, the most interesting, and the most demanded, we’ve had several demands for a few people.” “Once they are done performing the person/persons who requested will be required to get up and deposit their donation. So get your checkbooks ready and have a marvelous time here this evening!” Everyone applauded and then the events kicked off.
The first person who got selected to get up and perform for the night was Jack Nicholson, and he was asked to imitate the Joker from Batman. Then Jim Carrey got up and was asked to do several impersonations. He got up and imitated Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro, then he spotted Meryl in the audience and started imitating her from Death Becomes Her. “Ern Darling, you pushed me down the stairs and now my head is on backwards, I’m calling the police, your in the shithouse now pal!” He said then he strutted about onstage like he was in high heels. Meryl was the first one to stand up and clap and he rushed over to her and picked her up and swung her around. Meryl was laughing. “Your good Jim.” she said. “Why thank you, your not so bad yourself” he said winking. Then he returned to his seat. When Meryl sat back down a handsome young waiter bumped into her chair. “Oh Ms. Streep I’m so sorry please forgive me.” he said smiling. Meryl smiled back. “That’s all right really, it was an accident, don’t worry about it.” The young man smiled and then rushed off to where he was needed. Several people had gone up and given their performances and Mamie leaned over to Meryl. “Ok Mom just remember I love you and don’t get mad.” she said. “Mamie you didn’t” “Sorry mom, but come on they might not even use that.” As if on cue the announcer got up and said “Mamie Gummer has requested that Meryl Streep get up here and perform some of her old cheerleading tricks.” Everyone broke out into applause as Meryl lightly smacked Mamie on the back of the head and got on the stage as they cleared a place for her to be able to move around. Meryl smiled and looked out at everybody. “Are you ready?” she asked. They all clapped and shouted yes. Meryl went to the end of the stage, got a running start and did a cartwheel. Everyone clapped and Meryl paused a moment to take her heels off and announced. “If I injure myself you all get to blame my daughter.” she said winking at Mamie. Then Meryl got another running start and did another cartwheel but immediately followed it by two back flips. Then she ran and did a front flip and to finish off she walked to the front of the stage and got on the very edge and jumped off and did the splits and touched her toes. Everyone stood up and applauded and shouted “Go Meryl!!” She retrieved her shoes and Mamie came up and made her donation. They both walked back to the table and sat down. No sooner had she sat down when the announcer got back up and said “Meryl you should have just stayed up here because now we have a request from several people he named off Jack Nicholson, Goldie Hawn, Jim Carrey and of course Pierce Brosnan. They all want you to sing a couple of songs from Mamma Mia! And of course they have provided the karaoke track all you have to do is pick the one’s you want to sing. Meryl smiled and got back up and started off with Mamma Mia, then she sang Slipping through My Fingers and The Winner Takes it All. After Winner everyone had a hard time not tearing up. “All right, now I have a request of my own, and since the soundtrack is already up here it shouldn’t be a problem, but I will gladly donate if Pierce Brosnan will come up here and sing S.O.S. with me.” she grinned and motioned for him to come up to the stage. He looked Panic stricken but he got up on stage anyways. “this is my payback for putting her up here.” he said to everyone. Then he held the microphone away and said ‘I’ll be getting you back for this when we get home.” Meryl just grinned and the music started, and they started singing. When it was over there was a standing ovation as they went back to their seats. “I can’t believe you made me do that.” he said “Oh yes you can.” she laughed and they sat down.
The night continued and at about midnight the announcer got up and announced the total. “Over 3 million dollars!!” Everyone stood up and cheered. The even was over but everyone was sticking around and talking to one another. Meryl and Pierce were laughing and talking with Goldie Hawn. “Meryl when you start back to work we really need to do another movie together!” “Your right we do Death Becomes Her was so much fun to work on.” Meryl said and she turned to Pierce and her and Goldie started explaining their experience on shooting with special effects. “There was one day when I had to walk backwards with a blue bag thing over my head!” Meryl said laughing. “But that’s no the funny part.” Goldie said “the funny part was every time Meryl tripped because she couldn’t see where she was going.” Pierce laughed. “Yeah, Meryl tripped a few times during filming the Voulez Vouz sequence of Mamma Mia!” Meryl hit his arm playfully. “He was the only one not to busy laughing their ass off to help me up!” “My heel had gotten caught on something and down I went.” Meryl said. They got through talking to Goldie and then One of Pierce’s former co stars came over and Meryl spotted Anne Hathaway. “Honey I’m just going to go and say hi for a few minutes, I’ll be with her until she leaves or until your ready to leave.” she said “All right.” Pierce said kissing her and Meryl walked through the crowd of people towards Anne Hathaway.
After awhile Pierce was ready to leave, it was almost 2 in the morning and he wanted to get Meryl back home and pay her back for making him sing. He walked and found Anne Hathaway. “Hey” he said He didn’t see Meryl anywhere near you. “Did Meryl just come looking for me?” he asked. “What are you talking about?” Anne asked. “I haven’t talked to Meryl all evening, it looked like she was coming over here to say hi, but I guess she got side tracked with someone else because when I turned around to look for her she wasn’t coming over here anymore and I couldn’t see her.” “What?” Pierce said fairly calmly. He walked back through the crowd and he couldn’t find her. Then he saw Mamie. “Mamie, have you seen your mother?” “No I thought she was with you, I was looking for you guys earlier.” she said. Pierce started to panic. “I can’t find her anywhere!” he said. Mamie got out her cell phone. “She’s not answering” Mamie said after letting it ring awhile. Piece got out his phone and tried, and there was no answer. “This doesn’t make sense, she always keeps her phone on her and she was tonight in case Louisa had problems with Heather.” Pierce said. Now Mamie was getting worried too. They went around asking everybody if they had seen Meryl, but nobody had seen her for quite sometime now. They checked everywhere and finally Mamie and Pierce on the stage and grabbed a microphone. “Has anyone seen Meryl?” they asked. Everyone looked around, and she wasn’t in the room anywhere, Pierce was really worried. “Mom doesn’t do jokes like this she never would something isn’t right.” Mamie said truly scared. Some guy got up on stage and called one of his waiters. “I can’t find him!’ he said then he looked at Pierce. Pierce was as white as a ghost. He had all kinds of thoughts running through his head and he was desperately hoping what he thought wasn’t true. “It can’t be true” he whispered. “it’s not true, it’s not true.” Pretty soon Mamie caught on and Her face was panic stricken. “Mom!” she screamed as she started to cry “No, no, no!” Her and Pierce both said………… TBC
